The creators of Phantom Blade Zero don’t want players to suffer like they do in Dark Souls. According to the head of S-Game, life is already hard enough without having to struggle in video games too. The developers have tried to eliminate unnecessary frustration while keeping combat spectacular and intense: Death carries no major penalties. Defeated enemies do not respawn. Boss fights feature checkpoints between phases, so players won’t have to restart the entire battle. Three difficulty settings are available: Easy, Normal, and Hard. A permadeath mode unlocks after completing the game. “We want as many people as possible to have fun, relax, and enjoy the game. And for those seeking a challenge, we’ll offer an extra dose of adrenaline.” The core philosophy behind Phantom Blade Zero is to make players feel incredibly powerful rather than punish them for every mistake.

Sam Altman owning kidneys is wasteful. Think of all the people out there in need of kidney transplants, and he's just sitting there with 2 of them in his own body.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

Patrick Stewart in the final scene on Star Trek: The Next Generation. It’s extremely simple, but reveals so much of his character if you watched. Somehow his sense of duty and sensitivity, along with the admiration of his crew shines through. RIP Captain.

It's pretty wild how every company wants me to do 2FA and strong passwords and passkeys and step my parents through how to do it and then my info just gets stolen from some major hack that has nothing to do with any of those things.

Literal boomer vs millennial/genz experience
Luke Skywalker: No formal training. Walks into the first Jedi he meets and becomes a Jedi. Learns on the job. Anakin Skywalker: Recognized as a child prodigy. Full formal training. Constantly told he’s the greatest. Sent to do all the work while others sit on the council. Still denied promotion.

> be Patrick Stewart > grow up in a house with no bathroom or hot water > discover acting and feel safe on stage > lose your hair by 19 > think your romantic life is over > become a Shakespearean actor > spend years performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company > get offered the role of Captain Picard at 47 > be told by Ian McKellen not to take it > take it anyway > play Picard for more than 35 years > become Professor X along the way > reunite with McKellen as Magneto > get knighted by Queen Elizabeth II > speak publicly about the violence you witnessed as a child > help women and children facing domestic abuse > die at 86 > leave behind characters that millions grew up with I grew up seeing him on screen. I think part of me expected him to always be there. Rest in peace, Patrick...

Just when you couldn't hate Sam anymore... he keeps saying shit like this.
sam: local inference is a terrible allocation of scarce resources “a lot of people want local inference, and somehow they assume that the problem is solved now because we have open-source models, we're going to be able to run them on our computers, and so we're not going to need all the stuff in the data centre but from a global allocation perspective, actually it's quite terrible to have everybody, like, have a bunch of the world's limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer and being used five percent of the time you want maximum utilisation in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that”

‼️BREAKING EXCLUSIVE LEAK: 10/28 Microsoft Company Wide AMA Meeting LEAKED “We are going to be global. And we are going to continue to bring global talent to the United States.” “We want to recognize it’s super important we take care of the people (green card workers).” This comes just 2 days after Microsoft asked nearly 60k of its employees to voluntarily resign in an effort to downsize. The employee who leaked this clip of the meeting to me was one of many who have expressed concerns to me. Multiple Microsoft employees have told me they feel as though MSFT doesn’t give them the same amount of respect and care. Many Microsoft employees are asking why H-1B workers aren’t the first to be cut during a downsize since MSFT claims none of the downsizing is performance based. Employees are curious why American workers aren’t being put first in the United States.

ANTHROPIC MAY BE BUILDING THE FIRST AI RETIREMENT HOME In today's newsletter, I wrote about the Anthropic S-1 and what I thought was the most interesting risk factor -- this idea that more and more of their compute may go to keeping obsolete models alive.

Somebody said that Apple is in their Taco Bell era where they're just smashing together random leftover parts from other devices and naming them things like "Phonedito Supreme Crunch" and it's the perfect analogy. Here slap a touch screen on this, charge $4k and call it a Maclupa

Anthropic's S1 reveals that the company considers copyright law a massive risk. It says: "If we cannot rely on the fair use doctrine to access copyrighted work for training our models, we may be required to pay significant fees to obtain a license to such training data or our ability to further develop our models [...] and distribute models trained on such data at issue could be adversely affected." Adverse rulings "could require us to retrain affected models from scratch at substantial cost." It notes that the copyright questions around AI training have not been resolved in the US, and that other countries don't even have 'fair use'. There is hope yet.

This is f*cking insane. SpaceXAI senior engineer (ex-Cursor): "99% of people open one GrokBot, ask it a question and close the tab I run 50+ GrokBot agents like a company. A Chief of Staff runs my day, 3 PMs hand out the work, 40+ workers ship it overnight, and I just check the results over coffee. That team does the job of 20 engineers" In this 1-hour workshop, SpaceXAI builds that GrokBot team from scratch, step by step GrokBot → Chief of Staff → PMs → 40+ Workers → Autonomous Company At SpaceXAI, 97% of engineers already run a team like this, and the ones who do are getting $750K+ offers. The rest are about to compete with them Worth more than any $5,000 agentic engineering course Bookmark it and watch today Then read how to build your own team of GrokBot agents in the harness engineering guide below ↓

IGN China scored Phantom Blade 0 a perfect 10/10 and provided a scathing commentary on the Western game industry "In the foreseeable future, when Western game creators are stuck in a creative rut, held hostage by political correctness, and bound by highly industrialized commercial logic, producing one mass-produced, industrial garbage game after another , then let Chinese game creators teach them a lesson and make them relearn what a high-quality, content-rich AAA game should look like." It's kinda hard to argue when you look at the state of the games industry. Asian games and developers look to be thriving whilst Western studios are either facing layoffs or being shut down. #PhantomBladeZero #PS5 #PS5Pro

As someone who still prefers to make games in a custom engine I wrote, the code is kind of an inseparable part of a game's character, decisions about engine structure and every little bit of code have ripples that can be felt in the end product, even if hard to pick out specifics
