The first-line antibiotic for an uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) in a non-pregnant adult woman is commonly: Nitrofurantoin 100 mg orally twice daily for 5 days. Other recommended options include: Fosfomycin – 3 g orally as a single dose. Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (Co-trimoxazole) – 160/800 mg twice daily for 3 days, where local resistance is sufficiently low. Pivmecillinam – where available.
