Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia's dismissal has generated widespread anger and frustration at top level of the Army. A common refrain today from active and retired senior Army officers: "This is Bulls**t!" h/t @nancyayoussef nytimes.com/2026/10/29/us/he…

Noteworthy differences between this statement and the anonymous first one from the Pentagon: 1) It alludes to the leak of "sensitive national security information," not classified information. They are different, both legally and practically. 2) It does not name Lt. Gen. Sylvia by name. 3) It does not directly accuse Sylvia of leaking classified information. These are significant legal differences.
The Department of War has zero tolerance for the intentional, unauthorized disclosure of classified information. Anyone who compromises sensitive national security information puts the lives of our Warriors at risk and undermines every military operation that keeps our country safe. Following an extensive Air Force OSI investigation, the Department took necessary personnel action to protect sensitive information. To protect the integrity of the investigation, no further comment will be made regarding the individual or the circumstances of this action. This matter, along with others, have been referred to the Justice Department for potential further legal action. Classified information is not personal property. Leaking it for personal, political or professional gain is a betrayal of the trust placed in those responsible for keeping it. Our commitment was not an empty promise. We vowed to find you, and we meant it.

It's true: Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia has been ousted from his Joint Staff role, say officials familiar w/ the issue. Several voiced exasperation, citing his work as a well regarded 101st Airborne Division commander. He's also a recipient of the Bronze Star with V and Purple Heart.

I am able to confirm @nancyayoussef's scoop - A defense official confirms that Hegseth has fired Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia -- the @thejointstaff "J5" or Director of Strategy, Plans, and Policy. No word on his replacement of a reason for the ouster.

Scoop from @nancyayoussef This means the Joint Staff that serves the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs General Dan Caine is without its chief planner on the eve of possible resumption of strikes against Iran. It is the 2nd General serving in the Pentagon’s top planning role (J-5) that has been fired/forced out by Hegseth.

Sen. @tedcruz in March: "I don't believe that what is happening in Iran will be front and center in November. If it extends that long, we've done something wildly wrong... The president said at the beginning this is going to be a matter of several weeks."

Notable @washingtonpost revelation: CIA assessments find Iran has months of food and fuel stockpiled to withstand renewed US attacks. This casts further doubt on the notion that another "short" military campaign could force Iran's surrender or collapse. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

"The home-building industry in South Texas is where Trump’s least popular actions have converged to squeeze men working in construction. High mortgage rates have sapped housing demand, fuel prices are driving up construction costs, and the ICE crackdown has squeezed the labor supply."
