I've written up the results of my "Eggs before lunch, potatoes for dinner" diet: neoncube.me/blog/eggs-before… :)
This has probably been the best version of the potato diet that I've done so far! :)
I've just finished three weeks of an "eggs, Panda Express, and potatoes" diet! :)
Week #1
Start: 172.8lb
End: 169.8lb
Loss: 3lb
Week #2
Start: 169.8lb
End: 168.7lb
Loss: 1.1lb
Week #3
Start: 168.7lb
End: 167.5lb
Loss: 1.2lb
Results
Total weight loss: 5.3lb
Weight loss per week: 1.77lb
Weight loss per week after excluding the first week's loss: 1.15lb
My protocol for this diet:
* Two boiled eggs for breakfast, about 1 hour before lunch
* Panda Express for lunch (Super Greens, Broccoli Beef, Sweet Fire Chicken, and Dynamite chicken)
* Six potatoes for dinner, boiled and then mashed, with a hefty amount of salt and pepper.
Amazingly, this means that I seem to have lost exactly the same amount of weight per week (1.15lb) on all three of these diets:
* This diet ("Eggs, Panda Express, and potatoes")
* "Potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner" (neoncube.me/blog/potatoes-an…)
* "Potatoes and corn for dinner" (nitter.cf/neoncube9/status/20437…)
@mold_time Thanks for the shout-out in your October links blog post :)

People often have a sense that all the low-hanging scientific fruit has been picked, or that all the fruit that’s left can only be picked by huge teams with lots of funding.
But in fact, lots of projects are just the right scale for Indie Science.

Finishing up my first week of "potatoes, carrots, and butter for dinner"! :)
I hadn't had butter in so long that it tasted kind of gross for the first few days, but I quickly adapted :)
I'm boiling 1 cup baby carrots and 2lb of potatoes together, then adding 1tsp butter (not margarine) and salt and pepper to taste.
I'm adding butter because apparently vitamin A needs to be eaten together with fat in order to be absorbed.

@mold_time Do you typically crave salt way more than normal people do?
@mold_time Also, if you don't mind my asking, does drinking a glass of cold water on an empty (or relatively empty) stomach cause you to want to go take a bowel movement, but drinking strong, hot black coffee doesn't have the same effect?
I've written up the results of my "potatoes and corn for dinner" diet: neoncube.me/blog/potatoes-an… ! :)
I've brought my "potatoes and corn for dinner" diet to a close! :)
Overall results
Starting weight: 179.0lb
Ending weight: 175.4lb
Total weight loss: 3.6lb
Diet length: 23 days
Daily weight loss: 0.16lb
Weekly weight loss: 1.10lb
This is almost exactly the same weekly weight loss as when I did my "potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner" diet! :) (1.10lb vs 1.15lb) (neoncube.me/blog/potatoes-an…)
Overall, I'd say that the diet was a success!
I had chosen corn in part because it's often viewed as obesogenic, and I thought it would be interesting to see if it messed with the effects of the potato diet. It appears that it didn't :)
I'm not sure that I'd recommend this diet, though. The corn didn't add much flavor to the potatoes, and when defecating, I could feel each kernel of corn :/
For those who can tolerate it, the "potatoes and cottage cheese for dinner" diet seems both tastier and more nutritious.
For those who are lactose intolerant, I suppose that "potatoes and corn for dinner" might be a viable option, but my guess is that "potatoes + [something else] for dinner" would probably be tastier and perhaps just as effective.
I'm happy with this diet, though. I feel that I ran it well, and it's good to know that corn seems to be yet another food that can be safely mixed with potatoes without killing their weight loss effect! :)

I originally used AI to help calculate the nutrition facts for my potatoes and cottage cheese diet. The AI did a pretty good job of figuring out which nutrients the diet was lacking in, but sadly, it seems that the exact numbers that it generated were incorrect.
I’ve recalculated the nutrition facts by hand and updated the article. If you're interested, please see neoncube.me/blog/potatoes-an… for full details, including a table comparing the old AI-summarized values with the new hand-calculated ones.

I'm kind of scared to try supplementing potassium, because apparently overdosing can be fatal XD
I'm very interested, too, though, in whether potatoes cause weight loss because of something that's in them or because they're simply lower in calories/lithium/PUFA/etc.! :)
One way I might be able to test this would be to increase the amount of potatoes that I'm eating for dinner and see what happens:
* If I lose more weight, then potatoes probably contain something special.
* If I don't lose more weight, then it could be that potatoes don't contain something special, but it could also be that they do contain something special, but I'm already saturated with it, so increasing the amount of potatoes doesn't help.
Maybe I should try it :)
My personal theories are that perhaps:
* Potatoes contain a natural appetite suppresant
* The potassium in potatoes clears lithium, which allows the body to return to natural weight levels. An interesting twist here is that sodium also clears lithium, so one would think that people who eat a lot of sodium would be skinny, which doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps both lithium and sodium cause obesity, and in this diet, the large amounts of salt that I'm adding to the potatoes clears lithium, and then the potassium from the potatoes clears the sodium. I remember you had a post a while back about sodium possibly causing obesity, and I suppose this theory would fit with that.
* Potatoes cause weight loss via colon cleansing.

I also started taking Zyrtek (a powerful antihistamine) a few days ago, to try to get rid of some persistent hives that I've had for a couple of months. Hopefully this doesn't affect weight loss or weight gain too much :)
