We instituted an official AI Writing Policy at @Clay. Massive thanks to @sophiebits on our engineering team who wrote this. Originally this was just for eng, but other teams found it so helpful we expanded it company-wide. Here are the four guiding principles: 1. You must stand behind every idea and sentence It is your responsibility to make sure that the entire document is representative of your own thoughts before you share it. 2. Writing is thinking Spending time on the writing process teaches you more about your topic. If you circumvent this process, you will walk away with a poorer understanding of the subject matter. 3. More time should be spent writing a document than consuming it If you generate a document from a short prompt then ask your readers to go through the longer output, you are disrespecting their time. They can talk to ChatGPT themselves if they want to. 4. Longer is not better AI makes it easy to generate long docs, and it loves padding them with sentences that say nothing. If you're producing docs from a short prompt, consider just sharing the prompt. You can read (and borrow) the full policy below. Hopefully we all communicate a bit more clearly now :)

⚠️ Public health advisory: There's a big mind-virus going around these past few months, victims mostly residing in and around metropolitan areas of Bangalore, but clusters of cases also observed in select other large cities including NYC, London, Berlin, and Dubai. The research community is on it, but in the interim, we propose calling the condition SFOsis25 (pronounced ess-eff-OH-sis). Subjects are observed to lose all conviction in themselves, their surroundings, their proximate peers and their work, for the sole reason of them not being geographically present in the San Francisco region of California, USA. The condition is frequently self-mis-diagnosed by subject as ambition or agency. Common symptoms include thinking that relocating to SF is the solution, regardless of what the problem is, sometimes even if there is no real problem. No customers? I just need to get sf users No revenue? I just need an O1 to go to sf No funding? I just need to be visible in sf Patients tend to forget that SF relocation is a supplement, not a medicine. A great booster supplement that can 3x all your vitals. It can probably 3x your fundraise, fundability, sometimes traction, and general momentum. If you get $1m in India, you can probably get ~$3m in SF, etc. But remember, 0 x 3 is still 0. If you think not being in SF is the sole cause of all your miseries, then you are already dead. Current prognosis is poor; most subjects follow a similar course: Stage 1: subject gets a B1/B2 Visa for "customer" or "investor" conversations, while spending time at hacker houses, Luma meet-ups and founder dinners (superspreader events where they talk to other Stage 1 subjects and post about it later). No customers in sight. Stage 2: subject realizes that they were previously just uncredentialed, but now they are uncredentialed and international. They announce a future announcement and that they are "building something in stealth." Unfortunately, this is the last recorded contact for the majority of cases. Stage3: remission is rare, only ~10% of subjects make it here. They recover slowly and unglamorously. Some recover in SF, where they discover SF is no medicine. They decide to stop being tourists, the hustle then goes on for years instead of weeks; they build credibility, reputation & network from scratch, and start doing the work. Some subjects arrive in SF only to discover that most people with 📍sf in their bio are actually not there at all, they are doing the real work too, while sitting in yelahanka new town. Their condition resolves in two more weeks, they recover and get back to work, wherever they can get momentum. If you are already symptomatic, let the virus run its course -- take the trip, eat the sponsored meetup pizza, spend the money. Time to recovery could be as short as a month. If you are asymptomatic, but have found yourself recently looking for airbnbs in sf, you have been exposed. Isolate from x the everything app immediately. There is no vaccine, but recovery could be very close. Get customers, talk to them, get the revenue, repeat until all symptoms are gone. If you are not showing any symptoms at all, congratulations you may have immunity, clinically also referred to as revenue.

Today we launch the next chapter of Gushwork. Over the last 30 years, we saw commerce moving online - But what actually moved online were low value retail products: books, clothing, electronics. Anything high value, from $5,000 to $1M - a hydraulic crane, an industrial roofing contract, a heat shrink machine - still runs predominantly on human buyer seller conversations. And conversation was the one thing software couldn't do. That just changed. We are bringing 35 million sellers of high value products & services in the physical economy to the agentic web - One of the largest categories of commerce that barely moved online in the internet before AI.

Going out is rarely worth it and occasionally worth everything, which is why the rule has to be “go” and not “decide each time.”

It’s not necessary to have a contrarian view, what you need is contrarian but correct view. But given how hard that is (because populations tend to converge to truths), you should expect your contrarian view to be incorrect by default. You should increase your probability of contrarian view to be correct by noticing positive surprise when you share it with smart people. This is why sharing your ideas widely is important. Either they’re wrong, or you tend to confirm that you’ve found gold.

My dad has a kidney issue, and a YouTube doctor told him to load up on protein so he did and reworked his whole diet around it. A few months later his urologist told us that protein is the one thing his kidneys actually can't handle rn. A friend of mine had the same kind of thing happen the other way - he went back to his village in Andhra to see his retired parents and saw their YouTube feed had slowly turned them Hindu vs. Christian, and this is a man whose own guru was Christian who he appreciated a lot - so he was never remotely like this. The feeds just fed them all day while we're off in other cities. Anyway, he didn't like what he saw and decided to act on it. He wrote a Claude Code and Playwright script that sits on their account, checks the recommended videos and marks every hate channel as not interested until the algorithm quietly gives up. It's brute force but works. I used his setup on my dad's account - it checks his recommendations every day and marks those generic docs not interested. His feed's back to Indian Idol now lol

Surprised by the no of people not figuring this is actually airbnb
This is a brilliant ad. It goes on to show that a brand’s identity is beyond just the logo. It’s about how you show up every single day. Great work Kotak Mahindra Bank. Seriously impressive 👏🏻

Founders Fund is so good at brand. The website, the taste in every detail, even what they choose to put out, like the recent Mafia game with founders. Another one is The Browser Company. The release notes, the docs, the tutorials, the launch videos. All of it so good.
