We welcome the Church Appointments bill, but it is only a first step. Sam Carling MP's contribution shows why reform must go further. We'll keep campaigning to separate religion and state for a fairer society. secularism.org.uk/news/2026/…

We've written to the foreign secretary, urging him to intervene in the case of Anojan Sivarasa - a man sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for insulting Islam and Muhammad. No one should face criminal sanction, let alone execution, for so-called 'blasphemy'. secularism.org.uk/news/2026/…

Charity rules need to change - and debar all religious organisations unless they are able to demonstrate that ‘public benefit’ means all of the public, rather than partial or sectarian interests
The rise of Christian nationalism has only highlighted the kind of harmful dogma being promoted under the guise of religion in our charity sector - and effectively state-subsidised. Our engagement officer @fodhlabrady discusses for @TimesRadio👇 youtube.com/watch?v=xA5yUrSc…

🚨 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗘𝗔 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗞𝗘𝗘𝗣𝗦 𝗚𝗥𝗢𝗪𝗜𝗡𝗚 — 𝗦𝗢 𝗪𝗛𝗢’𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗟𝗟𝗬 𝗣𝗔𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚?🚨 While communities are fighting the destructive 𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, National Grid executives are receiving enormous pay packages — funded in part through the costs ultimately borne by electricity consumers. 💰 Outgoing National Grid CEO 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘄 is reported to have received an annual package of around £𝟲.𝟭𝗺–£𝟲.𝟱𝗺, with his performance bonus cap having been increased. And 𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗢 𝗯𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗹𝘆𝗲 reportedly received more than £𝟵𝟯𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬, including a legacy retention payment from National Grid. Meanwhile, the price tag for Sea Link has exploded. 📈 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 £𝟭.𝟭 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 £𝟯.𝟮 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡. And there are still serious questions over whether the proposed system can actually operate at full capacity. Ofgem has highlighted an unresolved technical “𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝘀” 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿-𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲, saying the measures currently proposed do not resolve the problem. Further network modifications could therefore be required — potentially adding even more cost. But here’s the question: ❓ 𝗗𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱 £𝟯.𝟮 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁? Independent engineering assessments have suggested a figure in the region of £𝟮𝟬𝟬𝗺–£𝟯𝟬𝟬𝗺 for upgrading existing corridors. That’s an enormous difference. And under the current regulatory model, critics argue there is a fundamental problem: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗿𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀. So where is the incentive to choose the 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀𝘁, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? Why should communities lose farmland, landscapes and peace of mind — while consumers face the bill for billions of pounds of infrastructure? ⚠️ 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀. We need transparency. We need proper scrutiny. And we need the 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁-𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - not simply the most expensive one. 💥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗬𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗠 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘. 👉 Please share this post and help get the facts and questions about Sea Link into the public conversation. #StopSeaLink #SeaLink #ProtectOurCountryside #EnergyBills #PowerForPeople

The Government has said it thinks charities which exist to promote creationism benefit the public. This is the absurd consequence of ‘the advancement of religion’ being a charitable purpose. Taxpayers shouldn’t be subsidising pseudoscience. Read more 👇 secularism.org.uk/news/2026/…

Enormous admiration for @sam_carling_ who is using his own background to argue that religious institutions should not be allowed to handle abuse allegations privately and that the law should require mandatory reporting to police or safeguarding authorities. Mandatory reporting of child abuse should simply not be controversial. • Children’s safety must come before institutional reputation • Religious organisations cannot be above safeguarding law. • Internal disciplinary processes are not a substitute for the police. • Faith communities should welcome transparency, because protecting the vulnerable is a moral obligation before it is a legal one. If mandatory reporting helps ensure abuse is reported earlier and victims are protected, then it is the right thing to do. Safeguarding is not anti-religion. It’s simply putting children first. Jesus would don’t we!?!? @NatSecSoc bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce94…

🛑🛑𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗦𝗜𝗚𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡🛑🛑 Many people in our area are feeling overwhelmed by the number of other energy projects being planned or built in the area at the same time.
