I have a confession to make. I wrote a book to help make economic cycles more clear to the typical person and am in the final edit now. Due to this, I just launched a new Substack as an accompaniment. Welcome to The Rhythm of the System. open.substack.com/pub/rhythm…

History does indeed rhyme.
Look, there'll be a day when I have no more Grover Cleveland cards left to play, but our previous non-consecutive president got triumphantly reelected in 1892 and then suffered the biggest House losses in history in the 1894 midterms.

While a 165K jobs added in Oct (according to the first reading) sounds great, it does not mean the economy is out of the woods. 262K were created in Feb 2020 and 237K in Jan 2020. Pre-Covid (2012-2019) average is 197K per month.

Hey, Donald Trump. You just got your ass whooped in one of the worst midterm election results in history. What are you going to do now? DJT: "The absolute dumbest and most divisive thing I can think of."

Employment in the US actually expanded by 1.023 million, or 0.6% (NSA), last month, which is just shy of the 0.7% increase that is normal for October. An abnormal expansion in the Manufacturing economy heading into the fall offset ongoing weakness in Oil/Gas extraction, Construction, Information, Telecommunications, Financial Activities, and Leisure/Hospitality segments, many of which have struggled from the high cost of borrowing/living. $STUDY $MACRO #Economy #Employment #NFP

Statements from Trump and Cramer tonight are making things look good for tomorrow. A gap down would be ideal. $SPY

I'm still bitter that Walley Capital is taken. @justinboss24
Walleye Capital will return part of its capital and cut most of its internal equity long/short teams after its worst month since March 2020, per its client letter.

Great synopsis of how Trump's hubris killed the MAGA movement. How Trump lost the midterms—and brought on one of the most decisive repudiations of a president in modern history. wsj.com/politics/policy/how-… via @WSJ

As I was saying in April 2025: You do tariffs, you lose Congress.
History says the GOP should be terrified of the electorate now: McKinley tariff 1890: The House flipped midterms from R +7 to D +147. In 1892, D secured unified control of gov for first time in 34 years. Smoot-Hawley 1930: In midterms, D gain of 52. In 1932, D unified control.
