🚨 This could be the end of Type 2 diabetes. Researchers at ETH Zurich led by Martin Fussenegger built a small wireless implant that uses electricity to break down extra sugar in the blood. It switches off when levels are normal — and means people won’t need diabetes drugs anymore. Inside is a catalyst made of graphite felt coated with tiny gold and platinum particles, with no living cells or drugs. A glucose sensor worn on the arm watches sugar levels. When they climb after a meal, it signals a phone or smartwatch, which switches on the implant. The catalyst then turns glucose into gluconate, a harmless compound the body flushes out in urine, and the system shuts off once sugar is back on target. In diabetic mice, the device kept blood sugar under tight control for six weeks, the animals lost weight, and it caused no sign of tissue damage. Because less sugar ends up stored as fat, the team sees it as a possible tool for both type 2 diabetes and obesity, without daily pills or injections. So far it has only been tested in mice, and human trials are still ahead. source: Maity, D., et al. (2026). Wireless electrocatalytic closed-loop system for drug-free management of diabesity. 🚨 The Strange Secret Behind Wrinkly Fingers Have you ever stepped out of the shower and noticed your fingers looked like prunes? Most people think it's because your skin soaks up water. But the truth is far more surprising. Scientists discovered that those wrinkles are actually controlled by your nervous system. When your hands stay in water for several minutes, your body intentionally creates tiny wrinkles on your fingertips. Why? To help you grip wet objects more effectively. Think about it like the treads on a car tire. Those wrinkles help channel water away and improve traction. In other words, your body may be activating an ancient evolutionary trick designed to help our ancestors gather food, climb, and survive in wet environments. The next time you notice wrinkly fingers in the shower, remember: your body isn't malfunctioning. It's quietly revealing a fascinating survival feature that has been hiding in plain sight all along. 🧬 Scientists Use Cancer Cells' Own Chemistry Against Them Japanese researchers have developed a protein-based palladium complex that uses carbon monoxide produced inside cancer cells to synthesize an anticancer compound directly within the cells. Published in *Nature Communications*, the study showed that this approach suppressed cancer cell growth in laboratory experiments, with less toxicity observed in tested normal cells. The research is still at an early stage. Animal studies and clinical trials are needed to determine whether this strategy can safely and effectively treat cancer in humans. Could this approach open a new path toward more targeted cancer therapies? Source: Kawai et al., *Nature Communications* (2026).
