A powerful reminder that NCDs demand sustained action. Tackling heart disease, stroke, and COPD requires stronger prevention, cleaner air, tobacco control, and affordable, timely care.
What is the world’s biggest killer?
It's ischaemic heart disease, responsible for 16% of the world’s total deaths - that is equal to 9.5 million deaths in 2023.
Stroke and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were the second and third leading causes of deaths in 2023, responsible for approximately 11% (6.8 million) and 6% (3.6 million) of total deaths, respectively.
💔 Ischaemic heart disease is a condition where the heart muscle receives less blood flow and oxygen because the coronary arteries are narrowed or blocked.
🧠 Stroke is a medical emergency that occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted, either due to a blockage or bleeding.
🫁 Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung disease causing restricted airflow and breathing problems. It is sometimes called emphysema or chronic bronchitis.

Compassion for animals starts early. Commendable work by RAWO in bringing Humane Education to primary schools in Musanze! I encourage expanding this initiative beyond Musanze so more children can learn kindness, responsible animal care, and respect for all living beings.

HIV progress is measured in percentages, but it's lived by people. To end AIDS by 2030, we need to hear from those still facing stigma and barriers to care. Community-led monitoring does exactly that.

Putting Communities First: Transforming HIV and SRHR Through Partnership in Rwanda
Rwanda’s HIV response is a global reference point, having reached remarkable milestones with adult targets now standing at 96-98-98. However, national averages can sometimes hide the people the system still misses.
In this compelling article, we highlight the impactful power of collaboration and partnership between the @RwandaNGOForum and @UNAIDSRwanda in putting key and priority populations, including FSW, MSM, transgender people, PWID/PWUD, people with disabilities, and AGYW, at the center of the HIV and SRHR response through Community-Led Monitoring (CLM), data-driven advocacy, and policy transformation.
