Looking forward to speaking about generative AI, democracy, and jigsaw puzzles tomorrow. Also some really excellent speakers on the bill. You can watch online, or if you're in Berlin I look forward to seeing you!

There's a lot to think about from this UK general election. But for now, I'm just so happy and relieved. Congrats, thanks, and good luck to all involved.

Losing Uxbridge, South West Norfolk, Maidenhead and Witney all in one night means the Tories no longer hold any of the seats of the Prime Ministers they had between May 2010 and October 2022.

That Reform vote was expected by all of them. If you didn't see that coming you weren't paying attention. Reform will come second in *loads* of northern and midlands "traditional" Labour seats.

Then we'll distribute the observations to experts to give views on whether these are or aren't systemic risks. That will help us work with the European Commission to draw up proper guidelines for systemic risks🧠

"Systemic risks" really is a key part of the Digital Services Act - and also increasingly other tech regulation, like the AI Act. So your help in gathering evidence could hopefully be very impactful💥 I'm very happy to answer questions. But bear in mind, if something is unclear - that might be precisely the problem we're trying to solve!

Question for my #DSA folks - how would the Meta announcement that they won't show political content to non-followers work with Art.17? Is that "restricting content", would they need to provide statements of reasons every time they don't show that content to non-followers? Paging @PJLeerssen @mathver

Thread on news of #Crowdtangle closure. Firstly, PSA to researchers: If you could use data from any of the online platforms with new researcher access programmes/libraries (list in linked survey, scroll down) *please* apply. Then fill out this survey. It will really help very important data access efforts. utexas.qualtrics.com/jfe/for…

Platforms can do that, with very few consequences for them. Which is why, as I'll say until I'm blue in the face, measures like the EU's Digital Services Act are needed. Without it, we'd be in an even more pessimistic scenario.

In the meantime, shout out to people like Brandon, Claire Pershan (@DJEmeritus ) , @RebekahKTromble , Coalition for @transparenttech , @JWI_Berlin and others who are doing great work to coordinate efforts for data access.

My new, extremely petty, gripe: people talking about the 'Year of Elections' saying that "half the world will be voting this year". No! There's lots of children in countries! Or otherwise ineligible people! Lots of people will choose not to vote!

I've been made aware that on this 2nd anniversary of the Ukraine invasion, the "IStandWithRussia" hashtag is appearing again; exactly the same hashtag used in the initial invasion. Here's analysis we did (led by @carljackmiller ) of communities using it files.casmconsulting.co.uk/m…
