The two latests releases by Apple are corporate brain farts: Duo and Touch. And it's not just me saying it ... Steve Jobs circa 2011: "touch surfaces don't want to be vertical."
We brought Touch to the Mac! From the all-new iPad mini to the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac... and now MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch, creators have new tools to do their best work yet.

Prove that don’t need or we can’t have, either one, humans; who created this mess on the first place, accumulating decades of tech debt.
I'm tired boss

Dear Anthropic, don't walk to me about welfare, talk to me about making your screwdriver actually work properly. Your issues are bugs, not consciousness.
A few people at Anthropic really need to get their heads checked. Model welfare? What's next ... GPU welfare? Screwdriver welfare? Wtf ...

Russia and China happily seeing "world order" being shaken.
Systems of belief at play, aka "us vs them." Who cares about scientific proof, data-driven decisions & falsification. Ideology has always shaped cultures, borders, and wars. We are witnessing the first post-globalisation war of ideologies possibly spiralling into armed conflict.

International justice must be defended. There cannot be lasting peace without accountability. The EU deeply regrets the decision of the United States to impose institutional sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC). We will carefully analyse the situation and take the appropriate steps to protect the Court. The US decision to delay the entry into force of its latest measures is an opportunity for dialogue. The EU will continue to support the ICC and the Rome Statute system through political, diplomatic, financial and practical means. @IntlCrimCourt

Not really. Read Shannon's Information Theory. Agentic's bottleneck is information entropy, not human's org structures. We are building production lines, not far dissimilar to car factories.
Tired: Two-pizza teams Wired: Two-slice teams @danshipper on the best team structure in the AI-era

"The Illusion of Sentience" vs "Software". The moral ambiguities demonstrated by Anthropic are absolutely hypocritical. If I buy a screwdriver, I want a screwdriver. Not to be lectured about danger and blocked from using it. Open-source sovereignty for the way.

We are buying intelligence by the kilogram of coal. A model can solve a problem in 3,000 tokens. Another can burn 30,000 and get it wrong. The second will send the bigger bill. I wrote about the market hiding inside that absurdity: reveries.mithran.studio/kilo… 1/7

This whole anthropomorphic lenses of Artificial Intelligence will be studied as social pollution for years, with similar fate to DEI.
Great to meet today with @POTUS, @JDVance, @SpeakerJohnson and Administration + tech leaders. Important conversation and we signed today the White House Accord on Super Intelligence. As I shared today, Google has invested hundreds of billions in the last two years alone, with more to come, across the entire stack, to deliver benefits for America and the world. We’re working to build products that deliver real value for people and businesses, invest in local communities, and build trust in the technology. Industry also has to innovate responsibly. Google’s focused on building the right way, with appropriate testing, evaluations, red-teaming, and other safeguards against misuse and misalignment – and releasing models or products only after they’ve been thoroughly reviewed. We are committed to working with other industry leaders to establish norms and build public confidence. The White House Accord and the Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities signed today is a solid basis for moving forward - it contains real tangible steps to promote safe development, while delivering the economic and scientific benefits of this technology.

“Increasingly irrelevant” yet the dismantling of the UK economy and society carries on
This is crazy. Britain's intelligence collaboration with Arab Gulf states was based on its access to Israeli intelligence. If that's even half-true, it's wild. And pathetic.

Research is not engineering
Our framework for reporting model misalignment openai.com/index/model-misal… // if you scrape away all the anthropomorphic language, all the nonsense about thinking, cheating, communicating these are BUGS. They might be architectural flaws inherent in LLMs. They might be bugs in pre or post processing. They might be trivial fixes or super to impossibly difficult. BUT THEY ARE BUGS. They are not consciousness, thinking/reasoning, cheating, or doing anything else like a person. The software is just doing dumb stuff it should not do. If an old school SQL query-based report returned a NULL set but still printed the report with whatever was left over in the buffer we would not say it "ignored our instructions to produce a valid report" which is literally implied in every computer interaction...we would say it "f'ed up and there's a bug." One of these is ridiculous. It says "agent preparing a financial model could not find the requested historical data. Its summary proposed inventing reasonable historical values and withholding that fact unless asked." Not unlike a report that just used random cached memory instead of actual data—a real bug from another era where storage was measured in megabytes. I ask anyone who has ever experienced an hallucination, (a) did you ask it "oh hey don't make sh*t up" or (b) "if you make sh*t up please be sure to tell me" or if not, did any model ever tell you "here's the answer and FYI I made this up." Of course not. THESE ARE BUGS. THE SOFTWARE ISN'T WORKING. Just because it looks like it works, or it showers the results in endless obsequious and smart-sounding language, or because it has really bad error reporting doesn't mean it is acting like some malevolent shady actor. It is acting like broken software. Every recalc bug in Excel looked like Excel worked. We never thought once that it was Excel's fault for "choosing to interpret math incorrectly." Every data-loss bug in Word was not because Word "chose not to tell the author that a file was corrupt" but it was because Word wasn't working and it was our fault. When Windows hung it was not because the scheduler was secretly conspiring against its instructions to schedule processes fairly. Enough with the mumbo jumbo. Please build software. It isn't a magic show. This is engineering.

One thing transportation taught me is that knowing what a road looked like yesterday won’t tell you what’s happening there now. I wrote about what that means for AI and why we’re building @empiricearth. Read “When AI leaves the screen”: hubs.ly/Q04xyrT50
