1/ @TinaKotek is the superintendent for Oregon Public Schools. My son and I met her on Labor Day at a picnic, and she even used our picture in her Labor Day campaign ad. 😬 Pause at the 8 second mark to see us. facebook.com/watch/?v=106114…

I WILL NOT vote for him. He supports the Gladstone school bond. #orpol I've found him to be a waffler too.
This is Michael Sugar. He's running for Oregon State Representative, District 40 (Oregon City, Gladstone area). He was canvassing my neighborhood last night, so I stepped out front to chat with him. Once he'd introduced himself as the Democrat running in my district, my first question was: "What's your position on gender ideology, including males in female sports & spaces?" He waffled about how he understands it might be "uncomfortable" to have males in private female spaces (YA THINK?) and babbled about how it depends on the ages of the athletes on the sports aspect, but that ultimately, since he is a tEaChEr, he understands how "trans kids" feel. A couple of my neighbors who know I'm not shy about expressing my views and who wholeheartedly agree with team reality on all things gender ideology related came outside to listen to our conversation, which was awesome, to know they were silently cheering me on. Thanks, cool neighbors! 😊 But friends, I really wish I'd filmed our conversation, because I didn't miss a single point in filling him in on the common sense view of all of this bullshit: - Sex is binary & immutable. - There is no such thing as "trans" kids because every human being is either male or female, period. - Any child who thinks he or she is a "trans" kid has been brainwashed by adults who are either perverts or stand to profit/gain from promoting gender ideology, or both. - It's 100% Democrats pushing this agenda. - Rape/DV shelters that were previously women only are now allowing men who pretend to be women in. I'm a rape survivor, and that is completely insane. - Democrats have lost A LOT of voters just like me over their stance on this issue over the last 10 years - lifelong registered Democrat Gen X women who refuse to support a party that pretends people can change their sex and supports mutilating & sterilizing children, all so surgeons and other greedy people can profit. - It's the schools brainwashing kids to think that if they experience feelings of unhappiness or are dissatisfied with their bodies, they can just change their sex! At which point, he jumped in and proudly reminded me "I'm a teacher!" 😂 I guess he thought that was a selling point? 😂 Which tells me he's not very perceptive, given I was mid rant about how the schools are brainwashing children. He repeatedly tried to interject with statements about how he understands where I'm coming from BUT as a teacher, he listens to "trans kids" and understands how they feel, too. I immediately shut him down every time he tried that line, reminding him that there is no such thing as a "trans" kid, there are boys and there are girls and sadly some boys and girls have been brainwashed by teachers, doctors, and other adults - including perverts - in positions of authority over children into thinking they are "trans" He tried several times to change the subject - that didn't go well for him. 😂 Then he tried to tell me about his opponent. I interrupted to let him know I'm aware of who is opponent is - Adam Baker - because I canvassed for him in 2022 and probably will again. And I let him know that I'm pro choice and I'm aware Adam is not - that's how strongly I feel about this ONE issue Democrats insist on pushing forward on. - He tried waffling with the "both sides" nonsense a bit more, to which I replied very firmly: "No, there is NO nuance on this issue. Sex is binary & immutable." Oregon House District 40, do not vote for this man!

Our new preprint is out: We reanalyze & expand the highly-influential Boston school mask study by Cowger et al published in @NEJM - Our expanded sample actually found higher case rates (not significant) in the masking districts - The authors' original findings did not hold up when not using the very specific Callaway Sant'Anna Diff in Diff methodology which we argue was inappropriate to use given the data they had -We show districts that dropped masks 1st had the biggest drop in cases (!) -We found prior immunity could explain up to 2/3 of the variation in case rates (!) We discuss in detail why causal inference was inappropriate in the original paper (nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…) including statements about masks effectively reducing cases or being able to help mitigate structural racism Very grateful to have been able to work with this incredible team: @AChandra_TO @ShamezLadhani @VPrasadMDMPH & Ram Duriseti Hopefully the peer reviewed version of our paper will be available soon. In the meantime, we welcome feedback of course! Our raw data, as always, are available on my github; link in the article arxiv.org/abs/2307.11974 (if you ask me our paper should have been published under statistics rather than physics, but I guess arXiv disagreed!) – at San Mateo, CA

That’s funny…@edutopia is describing one of the oldest and, arguably, most effective approaches to ensuring each child’s reading, writing, and arithmetic (3Rs) proficiency that’s recorded in America — i.e., the #OrtonGillingham Approach, circa 1930 (OG or OGA). #OG comprises direct, explicit, multisensory (multimodal), structured, sequential, diagnostic, and prescriptive ways to teach the 3Rs in k-12 education, to mastery/proficiency, but most government-run educator preparation programs (EdPrep) do NOT incorporate its components in preservice training. 🤯 #SoldaStory I wonder why America’s failing government-run, union-controlled #EdPrep programs, and the public education system on the whole, are just now figuring it out? 🤨 #StructuredLiteracy #ScienceofReading #LiteracyIsEquity cc: @openschoolsus @rweingarten

Research suggests students learn, remember, and apply new information better if they process that information in multiple different ways: Including: 🔸multiple senses 🔸abstract and concrete representations 🔸diverse examples 🔸varied activities 5/20

This is what teaching should be about @NEAToday. Social justice and culture wars won't help any child in the grand scheme of things. Let kids feel pride in themselves for their efforts not just what they look like or who they're attracted to.
1/Today a mom and I chatted after her children finished their sessions. The rising 3rd grade boy was BEAMING from ear to ear for today he wrote the entire alphabet in cursive with precision, and his mom relayed that her children are reading EVERYTHING at home. #orpol

My father was an abusive alcoholic. School was where i was safe from the abuse. Had I been a child during the school closures and closures in general, it would have been worse than hell. And the mandatory reporter who reported the abuse would not have had the opportunity.
School was a constant for me too. My parents drank, & I grew up in poverty. It was my local school that provided stability. For many families w/o close relatives, school serves as a hub. Public schools that abandoned kids & families in 2020 will never regain that trust.#orpol

If @ORDeptEd is investigating IDEA violations about a student with autism, shouldn't they have an investigator who is knowledgeable about that disability?🤔 How will they be able to determine if #FAPE was offered if they just use a private investigator?🤦‍♀️#orpol @FACTOregon

ODE should also have investigators with legal expertise on IDEA. They do not. Legal opinions are written and issued by unlicensed attorneys without specialized training IDEA. The head of the department “phones it in” from Nebraska where he lives. – at Edinburgh, Scotland

You will never get away with this grift. “The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence and crime, is WELDED to reading failure.” ~U.S. Department of Justice *quote source 👉 abqjournal.com/2455357/offic… @SecCardona is part of the reason why children who are locked into public schools learn about gun safety drills before they learn how to read. Secretary Cardona is part of the reason why the #ScienceofReading and direct, explicit, multimodal, systematic instruction is withheld from teachers in preservice government-run educator preparation programs, and inservice training and professional development — i.e., Cardona is a reason why public school teachers do not have the knowledge and skills to teach each child how to read proficiently, and why America’s in the throes of a #reading crisis. #FAPEdenied Don’t believe me, believe Mandy… 👉 nitter.cf/mandylorianm/sta… #LiteracyIsEquity #EDreformisGUNreform
We live in a society where kids are learning gun safety drills before they learn how to read. We’ve got to end the madness. Ban assault weapons.

I can personally attest to this. We pulled our child from an "A" Massachusetts public school after 3rd grade, because she could not read at grade level proficiently (grade level is a low expectation). #FAPEdenied We were privileged to be able to sacrifice lifelong savings to enroll her in a Science of Reading #OrtonGillingham-based private school, and transport here each day, each way. It took two entire school years (i.e., 4th and 5th grade) of intensive 1:1 daily lessons to remediate the academic harm caused by Balanced Literacy (e.g., @LucyCalkins Units of Study, 3-cueing). #readingcrisis Tell me happens to the children (and their families) that cannot afford the financial burden of private tutoring &/or private school tuition &/or private transportation. “The link between academic failure and delinquency, violence and crime is welded to reading failure.” ~U.S. Department of Justice #LiteracyIsEquity in education. NO ONE will EVER convince me otherwise.

4/ And @OregonTSPC did not charge Sarah Dunkin with failing to notify me on the day of the incident (which is REQUIRED by OARs), failing to report child abuse, nor lying to the school resource officer @GladstonePolice. I have no words to describe the corruption. #orpol

3/ The only way my son could get his services (OT, Speech/language etc) was to go back to that classroom. @ORDeptED_Colt , @ORDeptEd knew what was happening but did nothing. @OregonTSPC did not charge Jeremiah Patterson with failing to place the IA on administrative leave.

2/ The district unenrolled my son on November 2, 2022 (illegally). I had asked for homebound instruction on 9-26, but they refused. Remember this @debra? Fast forward to February 10, 2023 I get a letter from the district.... They wanted to make sure I knew she would be the sub

1/ It has been 9 months since my son was physically & emotionally abused at @cultureofcare by an instructional assistant. Instead of putting that person on administrative leave, the district went ahead w/ plans to have the IA serve as a sub in that classroom. #JeremiahPatterson
