My views are drawn from looking at what the people the health system serves need, based on the capabilities, limitations, and “evolvability” of my profession, and total respect for other healthcare professionals.

Gratitude!
Saturday, October 31, 2026, marked a defining milestone in my career when I was officially inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Nigeria. I am proud to join this elite group of scholars and to carry the post-nominal letters FAMedS. – at Ilorin, Nigeria
I had a patient who was prescribed Tavanic (back when it was around ₦20k+) for a few days. I asked the necessary questions, especially regarding the medications he was currently taking, the symptoms, and the test result.
But being a normal Nigerian, of course, he couldn’t remember the names of his medications and the test result was…
He got the medication and came back after a few weeks for the same thing. Then another few weeks later, he came back with a prescription for a downgrade (coz of course, Tavanic was getting more expensive).
A few weeks ago, he came with a list of the antidiabetics he was taking, and I saw Forxiga.
I was like, “I thought I asked you whether you were on some medications?”
Now, I started “wondering” whether he had been treating a mycotic infection as a bacterial infection all along and how repeated courses of the antibiotic could potentially have disrupted susceptible bacterial flora, further favouring fungal overgrowth.
One of the tricks in selling
It applies everywhere.
Buyer: I want to get A
Seller: What do you use it for | What are you looking to gain?
Patients starts talking
Seller taking note of everything being said and controlling the whole encounter while buyer thinks he/she is making the decisions 😅
An aso oke seller in Lagos once told me she never discounts on the first ask.
She asks what the customer wants - a wedding, a shop or a gift, then suggests the right cloth. The price stops being the main conversation.
Understanding the purpose behind a purchase beats winning the argument about price.

You are 30 so don't want to go for a 5 yr course because when you finish you will be 35. Whether you go back or not, you will be 35 in 5 yrs – at Victoria Island, Nigeria
I had a patient who was on Amlodipine and Lisinopril
He then made a request for a few sachet of Diclofenac and a pack of Dexamethasone together.
I asked him the necessary questions and that was when he told me he uses the two every day for joint pain (he is a mechanic).
You don’t want to imagine the number of days and his blood pressure
Advice full my mouth sha 😅
A kid who is supposed to take 5ml dose of Oral Nystatin for a thrush was being asked to take 0.6ml. 😒😒😒
She took it for 3 days without improvement only for me to discover the dose was wrong and she wasn’t given proper counseling on how to use it. She was just swallowing, and following up with water.
Pharmacy owners, abeg in the absence of a Pharmacist on duty, teach your sales persons how to use official references or better still have a dosing protocol for them to refer to.
They are not supposed to operate without one 🙂

people like that don’t think others have ambitions or actually want to become something, because the majority of the fanatical followers and loyalists they surround themselves with don’t have those ambitions to begin with. so yours becomes inadmissible to them.
on top of that, you’re just one in a large number of people, so you can be easily discarded no matter how good you are.
I agree with you that they’re not good people. but our society has made it a norm to keep a litany of destitute followers who are good for nothing, to themselves and to society.
“…. your quest to get better or explore opportunities becomes a thing of questionable loyalty. it is as if they forget loyalty should be mutually beneficial, at least in my own opinion.”
This is true and sad. I’ve witnessed it. I’ve also seen ONE person who did the opposite too, and I’ll tell you how he was.
But I still struggle to comprehend it. No matter how much I think about it, it doesn’t make any sense to me. People who serve you, people who are loyal to you and always support you. Don’t you think they have their own dreams and aspirations? Don’t you think they need to develop and want their lives to improve too? You know they are talented; that’s why you keep them, but why don’t you want them to grow under you? How difficult can this be?
You said it doesn’t mean they are bad people. I disagree with that; they are actually bad people. If someone who’s loyal is under you and you’re using him as you want, then you should always be ready to make the person grow as you grow yourself.
The one person I met who was different grew together with people he started with. They weren’t just his followers alone; their growth became his growth too. He established them, built houses for them, sponsored their weddings, and bought them cars many times. And now they are all big men.
If you’re going to just demand loyalty from people alone without wanting good or rewarding that loyalty in return, you’re not a good person in my opinion.

first of all, many people don’t understand that wealthy people can spot a beneficial talent from a mile away, and they are very good at poaching individuals amongst others to serve their own interests. conversely, or rather unfortunately, they don’t reciprocate that burning desire they had for you when it is time to reward you. at your lowest, you might eventually discover that that “elite” is just another user like any of these Nigerian girls.
it might interest you to know that no influential or wealthy person is going to look out for you the way you think. more often than not, they give you a gentle, little nudge that tickles your fancy, and that is all you will ever get if you did not snap out of that delusion.
people who are intentional about what they want around wealthy and influential people don’t get it as simply as people outside of that frame often think. there are two ways: it is either you are extremely fanatical, a lowlife, a praise singer, a soft-pedaler, or you are a thief. or you can use brute force to achieve your aims, be sneaky, cheat, a cynical cunning lore like them. there is no in between. there is no big reward anywhere. no wealthy or influential person will sign a check that will change your life without any political undertone to it. even at strictly business level, you are still going to get played.
also, proximity to that wealth or influence doesn’t mean you wield it or have a say in what it does to you or people around you. you are just a pawn in a chess game, and there’s a master player. the day your desperation (ambition by the way) becomes known is the day you are thrown. you will be an ungrateful idiot.
and those people like to throw the word loyalty around, that’s their ultimate weapon against any sensible person who has seen through their deception. your quest to get better or explore opportunities becomes a thing of questionable loyalty. it is as if they forget loyalty should be mutually beneficial, at least in my own opinion.
that’s why, more often than not, people who make it big through these wealthy and influential figures tend to fall out with them. because they reached a certain level that the dark arts no longer work on them, and they can thrive just as well with or without those connections. mind you, such leverage was never in the plan.
now, this doesn’t necessarily mean you are dealing with evil people. they are just better and more skilled than you in the dark arts of life. just do your thing, watch out for yourself.
at best, you are going to be just like them too when you work your way up to the top. LOL

Health education should improve health literacy, not manufacture medication phobia. Remember you are speaking to people that don't know anything about what you're saying oh.🫠🫠
