I miss when our team was made up of the small town Alabama boys.
WAYNE DAVIS
A career measured in stops.
From Gordo, Alabama, Wayne Davis became one of the most productive tacklers in Crimson Tide history. A four-year Alabama letterman from 1983–86, he played linebacker throughout the Ray Perkins era.
Davis finished his Alabama career with 327 tackles—the career record listed in the university’s 2025 record book.
His 1985 season stands out.
Davis recorded 125 tackles that fall, the third-highest single-season total in that record book. On September 14, he delivered a 24-tackle performance against Texas A&M, tied for the second-highest single-game total listed by Alabama.
His football career continued after Tuscaloosa. The St. Louis Cardinals selected him in the ninth round of the 1987 NFL Draft, 229th overall. He appeared in 28 NFL regular-season games over the next two seasons.
Later, Davis found another calling in ministry, serving a congregation in Gordo—the community listed as his Alabama hometown.
327 career tackles. A 125-tackle season. A 24-tackle afternoon.
Remembering Wayne Davis and his place in Crimson Tide history.
Roll Tide.

It’s called a good start.
Alabama's eligible receivers wearing white helmets while the rest of the team wore red helmets is historically known as the @pbtide compromise.
It's also the reason Ray Perkins briefly brought back the white lids.

IT’S GAMEDAY🐓
- Jacksonville State has a chance to become bowl eligible for the 4th consecutive year, on the road against New Mexico State at 7:00 on ESPN2
- Tony Sanchez and the Aggies come in at 3-4 overall but sporting a 2-1 CUSA record, which makes this a big game in the title race
- New Mexico State is anchored offensively by running back James Jones who leads the conference with 777 rushing yards on the year. This contrasts nicely with the Aggie defense which is the best against the run in CUSA giving up only 3.3 yards per carry
- What does this mean for JSU? Defensively: Sell out to stop the run and make NMSU and QB Adam Damante beat us through the air
Offensively: Let Caden Creel spin the damn bean tonight. Deondre Johnson, Jamill Williams, Luke Gilbert, and the rest of the pass catchers should be in for a big night
- We have it at 31-17 Gamecocks, let us know all your thoughts👇
As the coaching silly season starts to warm up, @fauxjimmysexton is don’t miss insight and information. Well done!
Riley. Dykes. Schiano. Prime. Norvell. Five contracts, millions of dollars, and some pretty interesting fine print. The buyout is only part of the story. nitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1pJkOXkPE…

To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
