4 months ago I cloned Airtable for a client in 5 days because they refused to pay Airtable $500/mo
months later, I’m still maintaining it
every two weeks it’s another edge case, a UI tweak, or a "quick 10-minute request." They’ve easily spent 10x more in headaches than the $2,000 they would’ve paid Airtable
just proving that SaaS isn't dead. Cloning isn't enough, if you want it to be same quality as original it becomes a full time job
and at this point isn't it easier to just pay?

Why do 1980's Sesame Street books look so much better than modern versions?
Look at the first 3 images vs the last.
The first has warm colors, tiny details in background, imperfect shapes, background is packed with cool things to find.
In the 1970s and 80s an illustrator Joe Mathieu drew many of the Sesame Street books.
I was gifted one of his books and read it to my kids each night. I fell in love with the drawings so I've been buying all his work on eBay. Some of the books cost $200!
But look at the illustrations.
It's all done by hand. Watercolor and colored pencil. Imperfect edges, the pigment pooling in the corners, that's what makes it feel warm.
Compare this to modern Sesame Street books. Colors from a digital picker, cranked to max saturation, more perfect shapes. Its like the book is a screen. They hurt your eyes.
Somebody sat at a desk with a brush and made the old ones. That's the difference.

We will be releasing Laravel 12 on Monday.
This is primarily a maintenance focused release that updates upstream dependencies and has minimal breaking changes or major few features.
Because of that, the vast majority of applications will be able to upgrade with no changes to your application's code. 🚀
As more and more applications are built with Laravel, we're focusing on shipping new features continually throughout the year without breaking changes, with our yearly releases being utilized to update dependencies or address new PHP version compatibility.
The main focus next week will be:
- Laravel Cloud
- New Laravel Starter Kits
- New Laravel Website
- Laravel VS Code Extension's Stable Release
It's going to be an amazing week for Laravel and PHP. 🤘

If your organization is looking for someone to lead marketing, Michael is your guy.
I worked with him closely while he was at Turso and he's one of the good ones.
After an incredible journey leading marketing at @tursodatabase, where we achieved a whole company pivot to launch the Turso platform - going from zero users to over 50,000 with tens of thousands of paying customers in under eighteen months - I’m energized to explore what’s next.
Turso has made the difficult choice to go “back to the lab” and refocus on an aggressive rewrite of a beloved database technology - a decision I agree with on a strategic level by the way. But, that also means growing and positioning the existing platform takes a back seat, and I am one of the casualties of this shift.
To be clear, I love this team and I’m still an advisor and shareholder. As such, obviously I feel invested in their success, but I also have a high belief in it. With @glcst and @penberg at the helm, Turso stands a fantastic chance of achieving this ostentatious goal.
For my part, I’m considering opportunities to lead marketing for ambitious organizations - particularly those ready to reshape their category, scale rapidly, or navigate market transformation. My sweet spots include technical product positioning, aligning teams on vision, and frankly just getting sh*t done. I’m a builder at heart, and I’m always seeking challenges with teams I can meaningfully help out.
