Had an "interview" for a blockchain project last week.
Camera was on, we're chatting, and the guy tells me to clone a GitHub repo and run it locally before we go further into the technical round.
I said sure, but first can you do me a favor
hold up 3 fingers in front of your face for me real quick.
He froze.
Didn't move.
Just sat there for a few seconds before the call cut off and he blocked me.
That's when I knew. A real interviewer doesn't glitch out over a random ask like that. A deepfake/AI overlay does.
These "run this repo" scams are getting scary common in crypto and dev hiring right now.
The setup is always the same:
- flattering DM
- real-sounding project
- rushed timeline
- a "quick step" before the call
that's really just remote access or a credential stealer in disguise.
If someone wants you to run code or install something before you've even had a real conversation, that's the whole scam.
Trust the instinct. Stay safe out there.

In case anyone is wondering why Meta tried to squeeze claims from another cover-up into its massive $19B child harm settlement, this testimony was in a filing last night, “warned "to not pursue investigating Cambridge Analytica specifically" because "it would be career suicide."
whoa. there is almost $500 million buried in the 130 page Meta settlement to pay off states on Cambridge Analytica. Note, District of Columbia not listed where Zuckerberg personally has a suit, along with company, related to the ongoing legal reckoning from the cover-up. /1

WIRED found an unreleased facial recognition system, code-named NameTag, inside Meta's smart glasses companion app.
It converts a stranger's face, captured through your glasses, into a biometric signature.
Meta says it rejected facial recognition.
Its own code says otherwise.

Fairlife chocolate protein shake has one main ingredient. Filtered lowfat milk. Every other item on the list is under 1%.
The 26 grams of protein in the bottle comes from filtered milk, not from anything added. Regular lowfat milk is about 8 grams of protein a cup, so 14 ounces would give you around 14 grams. Ultrafiltration pushes the milk through membranes that hold the protein back and let the water and most of the lactose through, then the plant recombines it with more of the protein fraction. That's how you get to 26 with nothing on the list but milk.
The under 1% group is the taste and the texture. Four sweeteners, monk fruit, stevia, acesulfame potassium and sucralose. Each has its own aftertaste, and stacking them at low levels lets each one cover for the others. Then carrageenan, cellulose gel and cellulose gum, three thickeners that keep the cocoa from settling and give the shake some body.
It's about as clean as a protein shake gets.

My project manager came into my office this morning to tell me she’s stepping down to become a stay-at-home mom.
She makes $68,000 a year.
Her husband earns $72,000.
They just had their second child, so she called licensed local daycare centers to get quotes for an infant and a toddler.
Average cost: $2,650 a month. That’s $31,800 every year straight out of their post-tax income.
After federal taxes, state taxes, and healthcare deductions, her take-home pay was roughly $3,700 a month.
After paying $2,650 for daycare, she was working 40 hours a week to net $1,050 a month…..or about $6.50 an hour.
She looked at me and said: "I’m literally spending 160 hours a month away from my kids just to clear $250 a week after childcare costs."
We didn't just build an expensive economy.
We built a system where holding down a mid-class job as a second earner costs more than staying home.

Some sheriffs are so focused on acting tough on the internet that they will publicly shame a little child just to get views. Florida Sheriff Homer DeLoach III defended his choice to post a 9-year-old boy's mugshot on Facebook. Putting a third grader's face online causes permanent damage just for online clout.

Walmart employee calls the police on Michael Kruse and son, claiming they stole $50 worth of items while checking out.
The security guard missed the part where they paid for sand, and claimed they stole it.
Police show up to Michael's home, arrest he and his 18 year old son, Kruae offered to show the receipt, but police refused and stated they were there to fulfill the warrant.
Kruse stated to police, they should be more diligent before arresting folks, and he is right.
This will end up being costly for Forsyth County and Walmart...

What is the statute of limitations on the bribery Susan Collins is accused of here? She even appears to have called the felon to thank him for his bribe. This is straight up criminal behavior ProPublica found:
“After the budgets became law, Collins’ office pushed the Navy to award specific contracts to Navatek, emails seen by ProPublica show, even though awards are supposed to be competitive.
“I spoke with Sen. Collins office regarding the $8M,” a naval official wrote in an email on Feb. 6, 2019. “The interested company is Navatek.”
In a meeting with Collins and two campaign officials, Kao said, the officials told him the senator expected his ongoing support. Collins told him: “You’ve seen me deliver,” Kao said.
Reed knew Kao was behind the $150,000 anonymous donation, emails showed, because Kao told Reed he planned to donate through a shell company. “Very smart,” Reed replied in an email viewed by ProPublica.
