I went in with high expectations, I think you should, it's Kenji Tanigaki & Kensuke Sonomura, two of the best action designers working today & since, way back. & it delivers, THE FURIOUS is designed for performers that perform on a very high level & everyone rises to the ocassion
We have seen these performers explode onto the screen back when they hit the screen running, it's not a surprise that they can achieve on this level, but it is a gift, it's a fulfillment of a promise, where many wonderful on screen fighter's seldom get that kind of chance again..

Is always fascinating watching these early Angela Mao films and you get to see a lot of the pioneers of the genre in it as extras or supporting characters. Like Corey Yuen, Jackie Chan & Yuen Wah.
Now this film is structed very similar to Hapkido which it feels like two films put together. Basically, setting up one character (Kao Chu) and focusing on the others Tseng Ching Lan & Hsu Chin Kang. Is not heavily focus on action, but you get some insight into the culture of the Himalayans, and the drama is not bad on this story on trying to undercut the Tseng family's wealth no matter the cost. The action done by Han Ying-Chieh & Sammo Hung is solid as usual.

Part of why Better Than Dead has a female protagonist is because I really love that side of Hong Kong action cinema.
There are many films with female leads, even if a lot of them are not very well known outside Asia.
BTD is also a small tribute to that tradition.

Full RIP. Captured from a SONY S-Video VCR for the highest quality. With chapter markers, highlight and contrast adjustments. Audio is in PCM. One of the finest films by Kazuyoshi Ozawa (Also the lead) this film never got a DVD, and the VHS is very rare. This film is not on streaming services or anywhere online.
Very Hong Kong inspired gunplay and a blast all round. This couldn't be possible without @MOVIE89478 who gifted me the VHS many years ago and @Neo_Manifesto & @HeadExposure who donated on me getting a top of the line S-Video VCR from SONY a few years back.
