No disrespect to anyone, but this guy seems to be drawing more media and government attention to the struggles facing hospitality than industry bodies or activists. Maybe @andyjlennox and this guy should join forces to fight for us.
"Andy Burnham, come and have a chat with me. Come and work in my business, I'll show you what we need." Small business owner Paul Bowen asks Prime Minister Andy Burnham for more support following this week’s Budget measures. #Newsnight

Our island sits on coal and is surrounded by oil and gas, but yet we import them from afar. And all because various individuals in government have decided to tick a net zero box. Madness.

Do people who are pro the tourist tax understand that hospitality businesses already pay 20 per cent VAT, and that this is double what most other countries who have the tourist tax pay? Do they understand how much pressure these businesses are already under?

Guess what, tourists already pay tax on hotel stays…it’s called VAT and it’s currently 20% in the UK. Way higher than our European counterparts who currently have a tourist tax. People are sick of paying TAX and seeing no improvement to quality of life or public services.

This is why we need a #VATCUT for #Hospitality in line with Europe #Vatstheproblem #VatinlinewithEurope
Arthur Laffer is spot on. High taxes are fuelling a youth unemployment crisis. Labour's Jobs Tax, surging business rates, sky-high energy bills and red tape are disastrous. I hope he gets his meeting with Andy Burnham or John Healey - and that they listen!

You already pay a tax every time you stay in a caravan, a holiday cottage, a hotel - it is 20% VAT. Now you would have an additional levy on top - probably 5% - and VAT on top of that. A triple whammy of tax

Andy Burnham said it himself: hospitality VAT in line with Europe He is now the Prime Minister, and it is time to turn those words into action. Scotland’s hospitality businesses are being squeezed by soaring rates, energy bills and food inflation. A permanent VAT reduction would protect jobs, encourage investment, make eating and drinking out more affordable and help businesses survive. Prime Minister, you understood the argument before entering Downing Street. Now you have the power to deliver. The Scottish Hospitality Group is calling on the UK Government to cut hospitality VAT to 10%. VAT’s the problem. Now let’s fix it. @andyburnham #vatstheproblem
Let’s hope the Govt doesn’t do a massively damaging U turn regarding the VAT changes in line with Europe that the Prime Minister supports ?

Hospitality is vital but rising costs are squeezing the sector. The UK charges 20% VAT on meals and stays — among Europe's highest. Tom Kerridge's VAT's The Problem, backed by ~220,000 signatures calls for a 10% VAT. buff.ly/H0mqZxm #VATsTheProblem #MaitreD #Hospitality
