Personalized healthcare will be disrupted big time with what agents are capable of today
Bill Gates published a note today that healthcare leaders should read.
The science for Alzheimer's has moved faster than the system that delivers it.
The breakthrough is not a drug. It is a blood draw.
Roche's Elecsys pTau217 test, cleared by the FDA in August, identifies the amyloid pathology associated with Alzheimer's from a single sample. For the patient it is no different from a cholesterol panel. It runs on instruments most hospital labs already own, and Quest and Labcorp are putting it on their menus.
For decades the only path to a diagnosis was a PET scan or a spinal tap. That barrier is gone.
Gates spent a weekend with Alzheimer's specialists and asked about uptake. The answer was slow. Doctors and patients do not know the test exists. Primary care can order it, but treatment still waits on a specialist appointment that can take months.
Medicare coverage for the test depends on your zip code and does not cover screening at all.
None of those are science problems. They are delivery problems, and health systems can solve delivery problems. The cheap test is the lever.
Every system with a primary care network can decide this quarter whether a memory complaint gets a blood draw or a referral queue.

True
It’s almost incomprehensible how wide the distance is between someone who’s working at the frontier with AI and basically everyone else right now.
The crazy thing is these lines are not converging, but only growing farther apart. If the curve of AI progress had leveled off, it would certainly have given most people and companies time to catch up or implement their workflows in a standardized way. The technology would have neutralized competitive advantage because everyone would be using it the same way.
But what’s happened is the opposite. The curve of AI progress is basically going vertical right now, which means if you had codified your processes 3-6 months ago you’re likely already behind again. Now imagine most companies that kicked into gear a year ago and thought that they were done. Even further behind now.
I’ve never seen a technology in my life and career that improves at this rate, which consequently means you need to upgrade your expectations at a similar rate. Our brains weren’t wired for this, and our organizational change management processes certainly weren’t either.
With any form of recursive self improvement, things just get wilder. It’s a time when you will need to be constantly reevaluating the things that didn’t work just a couple months ago to see if they now can be solved. AI native companies certainly have a strong advantage due to this right now, so now it comes down to can the bigger companies keep up. Wild times.

Introducing the Google AI for Healthcare Professionals Certificate, practical training developed by clinicians at Google to help healthcare professionals use AI responsibly in their daily work.
#CopilotHome is a nested if.
#Code is a for loop.
#Cowork is a while loop.
#Autopilot is while(true).
One of these is not like the others.
The nested if still returns. The others already started the next iteration.
That's how I defined Microsofts new offerings to a room full of developers this week. There is some nuance, but they instantly understood. :) – at Boston, MA

🧵 Now in Practice: October. Nine new capabilities on the Abridge platform, most of them built around one idea: move the work that happens after the encounter back into it, while the context is still fresh.

Microsoft’s new Voluntary Exit Offer
Eligible employees at level 70 and below (i.e., roughly below VP) on participating teams in the US, Canada, the UK, and India are being offered financial support and career-planning resources if they choose to leave voluntarily.
Reports put the pool at about 60,000 people, roughly a quarter of the company. Not every organization is included; it varies by business priorities, customer commitments, and workforce needs.
Microsoft is clear that this is a voluntary program, not a buyout, and not a replacement for layoffs (which remain an option depending on conditions).
This comes after roughly 15,000 cuts in 2025 as the company continues heavy AI/infrastructure spending.

😎
Microsoft has made about 60,000 employees, 27% of its 223,000-person workforce, eligible for voluntary buyouts across the US, Canada, India and the UK.
offering eligible employees a cash severance package to quit voluntarily. Nobody is being bought or acquired, and nobody is forced out: each of the 60,000 eligible people can take the money and leave on December 31, or decline and keep their job.

🩻 What if every CT scan quietly screened for everything?
🔍 Penn Medicine's Percival, published in @npjDigitalMed, runs in the background of routine CT scans, surfacing hidden disease patterns and future health risks a human eye was never asked to look for.
This is the next-gen imaging revolution: not replacing the radiologist, but multiplying what each scan is worth. Opportunistic, population-scale screening from images we're already taking.
AI IS the OS of healthcare.

From the patient side, the bar is a lot lower than superintelligence.
My last CT report hit my phone at 11 PM on a Friday. AI walked me through every term and I wrote my questions down. Now I'm walking into my oncology visit ready for a real conversation instead of a panic.
Today's models already do that exceptionally well. Superintelligence is the bonus round!

Today in @Nature, we’re sharing the breakthrough research behind the Personal Health Agent (PHA)—the foundational science that was fundamental to how we built the Google Health Coach in the Google Health App.
We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence.

At long last. A coherent solution.
Today we announce 1Password for Agents platform, building with companies @Muse, SpaceX Super Intelligence Grok @Bot, @AnthropicAI’s @Claudeai, @OpenAI, @TownAI, @Browserbase, @Browser_use, @heydana_ai, Instinct, @usekernel, @Perplexity_ai, @tryramp, @Tomo, and @wajo_ai, with more integrations on the way. 🎉
We've heard from so many of our customers who want to use these new personal AI agents to help them get more done, but want more control over what the agent can access with the same trust and ease of use they get when using 1Password directly.
1Password for Agents gives your agents access without giving up your passwords. When an agent reaches a sign-in form, it requests a credential from your vault. If you approve the request, 1Password directly auto-fills the credential in the destination site so the agent can’t see or take possession of the credentials.
The agent gets the task done, but it doesn’t get your passwords..
You stay in control. 1Password for Agents free and optional for personal and family accounts. Unless you opt-in to an agent connector, agents cannot touch your vault.
