HP, Asus and Acer are quietly shifting PC production back to China from Thailand and Vietnam. According to a Nikkei Asia report by Lauly Li and Cheng Ting-Fang, AI infrastructure is devouring memory and storage for high-margin data centers, leaving consumer PCs starved. The bill of materials on a $500–700 PC jumped from $435 in early 2025 to $699 by Q3 2026. DRAM alone surged at least 8x in a year. With global bargaining power collapsing, the brands are leaning on China’s mature supply chain and emerging local ODMs like Luxshare that can source domestic chips and take on more procurement.
