#BREAKING | #Techie rapes friend’s girlfriend; kidnapped & assaulted by her friends in #Bengaluru. A #softwareengineer allegedly raped his friend’s 21-year-old girlfriend and was later kidnapped by her friends, who assaulted him and demanded ransom, police said on Thursday. The arrested are Bursu Mahendra, 23, and his friend Yerryboina Tarun, 23, both software engineers who lived together in a house in the Marathahalli area. Both were natives of Andhra Pradesh. During the inquiry, the 11 suspects, including the 21-year-old girl, allegedly confessed to the kidnapping and demanding a ransom. However, what shocked the police was the allegation made by the 21-year-old woman. She told the police that between 1.30 am and 4 am on October 24, Mahendra raped her at the house where he and Tarun lived. She was allegedly confined in a room by Tarun. She then informed her friends, who allegedly kidnapped Mahendra and Tarun, beat them up and demanded a ransom. Police immediately registered a second case, recorded her statement, questioned Mahendra and Tarun and arrested them. @DeccanHerald

If you're from/have a vote in Bengaluru in any district, check out eci-lookup.vercel.app I made it for a super easy look up by your voter-id instead of having to download 40 PDFs after having to know your district and assembly constituency etc.etc . 😊 Will do more soon.

What is more concerning is that the actual number could be higher than 61,000, as the consolidated records (Form-10) on the @ECISVEEP website have consistently shown less applications than figures cited by the @ceo_karnataka. Between Sept 24 & Oct 22, the CEO’s office reported 1,70,442 Form-7, against 1,56,634 as per the ECI website - a gap of 13,808 @pon_vasanth & I had highlighted this discrepancy in a recent report - thehindu.com/news/national/k…
SIR: Over 61,000 Form-7, one third of the total, were filed in the names of EROs/AEROs in Karnataka, with none citing a reason for seeking deletion More than 53,000 such forms were filed in just the last week of the window for the disposal of notices, which ended on Oct 22 In at least 26 constituencies, ERO/AEROs filed more Form-7 than voters or third parties Read: thehindu.com/news/national/k…

Just the month before SIR started in Karnataka, more than 1.28 lakh Form-7 applications were filed between the announcement of the SIR on May 14 & the freezing of rolls on June 16 Of these, 2,254 were filed “in bulk” by just 112 people, seeking deletions even before SIR began Read: thehindu.com/news/national/k…

I agree that journalists have the right to report, and the public have the right to protest. The anger is stemming from the fact that several journalists or rather their organisations, do not support the right to protest, and instead have systematically villainised the protestors. Yes, we can condemn the heckling. We can ask the protesters to stop behaving like this. At the same time, I hope these reporters (and many of them seniors) are coming back to their Newsrooms and strongly asking why they should bear the brunt for all editorial decisions and why things are not changing

Neither the heckling of journalists by protestors nor detention of journalists by police for doing their job of reporting should be acceptable. Bullying on one hand & misuse of power on the other. More newsroom leaders should be showing solidarity with all Journalists, especially those without the safeguards of big brands & conglomerates. Speak up for all journalists being targeted- by crowd or police. No reporter deserves to be targeted, heckled, detained for doing their job.
Unacceptable heckling of a good journalist @Vasudha156 just trying to do her job. We’re in dark times where public trust in the media is low, and journalists need to stand together for each other - whether they are from big networks and heckled by unruly mobs or independent voices threatened by the police.

Journalists condemn the attack on media persons covering the CJP protests on October 10, calling for accountability and respect for press freedom. “Attacks on journalists carrying out their professional duties are unacceptable and undermine the fundamental right of the media to report freely and fearlessly.”

I was just 2 minutes away from getting heckled by police yesterday. My colleague @pushkarv bore the brunt of plain clothed police ruthlessness yesterday. To be honest threat on assignment is becoming everyday affairs for us. Here is his account on what happened yesterday.

The response of @DKShivakumar and @PriyankKharge are welcome and reflects their accountability. Beyond what is said, the Licensing Order, 2021 by Commissioner of Police, Bangalore, restricting protests to Freedom Park, brought in when there was a BJP government, must be withdrawn
