Around 64.5 lakh potentially eligible voters may be missing from Karnataka’s final electoral rolls after SIR, with more than half of the shortfall among young people aged 18–29
Using age-wise population projections cited by officials, @pon_vasanth & I estimated that 5.19 crore people should be eligible to vote. But the final rolls have only 4.55 crore electors

Bengaluru has lost more than 43 lakh names from its electoral roll in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), with its electorate shrinking from 1.03 crore to just 59.08 lakh. The city, which accounted for the highest number of deletions in Karnataka during the draft stage, was also disproportionately affected during the subsequent notice and hearing process, with nearly half of all notices issued across the State concentrated here.

One day, Gyanesh Kumar and the ECI's role in the SIR will be mentioned in history books as an example of how democracies die. It would require more than a chapter, though.

What is more concerning is that the actual number could be higher than 61,000, as the consolidated records (Form-10) on the @ECISVEEP website have consistently shown less applications than figures cited by the @ceo_karnataka. Between Sept 24 & Oct 22, the CEO’s office reported 1,70,442 Form-7, against 1,56,634 as per the ECI website - a gap of 13,808
@pon_vasanth & I had highlighted this discrepancy in a recent report - thehindu.com/news/national/k…
SIR: Over 61,000 Form-7, one third of the total, were filed in the names of EROs/AEROs in Karnataka, with none citing a reason for seeking deletion
More than 53,000 such forms were filed in just the last week of the window for the disposal of notices, which ended on Oct 22
In at least 26 constituencies, ERO/AEROs filed more Form-7 than voters or third parties

This answers the question of where CEC is. Still shrinking voter lists, centrally - latest, from Karnataka.
Thousands of “auto-generated” Form 7s to throw out names. 👇🏾@the_hindu

This is how the ECI under Gyanesh is illegally filling forms to deleted voters directly from its centralised software in the name of poll officials. It is a criminal act for which Gyanesh and gang have to be punished.

At least 61,059 Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of names from Karnataka’s electoral rolls were filed by election officials themselves, with not a single application mentioning a reason for the deletion, a mandatory requirement under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.

Even if the SIR had been carried out without any discord among the ECs, it would still need to be scrapped because it subverts the foundational values of our republic!
what a lucid, brilliant piece!
A resignation here, a patchwork repair there won’t suffice.
Our demand must be a complete overhaul to restore integrity to our electoral process.
And whatever that takes.

Replying to @akshaykumar @AmitShah
Akshay, you know very well that Amit Shah is the one giving protection to these gangsters. He is directly responsible for threatening your livelihoods, your family’s safety and your fellow actors in the industry.
The more you behave like slaves in front of him, the more he will treat you like trash. But the moment you unite as an industry and take a courageous stand, they will be taken aback.
Luckily, you have earned enough money and fame for next 5 generations. This Gunda Raj of dictator will end soon, in a few more years. The only questions is, How will you look back upon this time? What will you tell your grandchildren?
That you bowed down in the hope of an illusion of safety? Or you had the guts to show some courage? Take some inspiration from your fellow industry people like Imran Khan and Prakash Raj.
I know the whole industry is under a lot of pressure but the sooner we have our country back, the sooner you and your fellow actors can have the good old freedom and peace again :)
