FYI, this "£90 billion in lost revenues" is another zombie statistic based on the NBER's claim of an 8% Brexit hit to GDP, which has already been widely debunked - including by economists at Bloomberg... ⚠️

NEW: MI5 chief Ken McCallum has said Britain must be careful not to exaggerate the impact of Russian interference and bots on democratic events like Brexit, warning that risks doing the Kremlin’s job for them.
“I'm a little bit worried that if we all stay in this debate for another few days that the Russian trolls who didn't appear to do all that at various points over the years, they'll be delighted.
“They are front page news once again, despite the comparative un-impressiveness of much of what they do at all the points along the journey.
“I am a little bit anxious that we don’t play into our adversaries’ hands by making these trolls look 10 feet tall. That’s not our experience of them.”
“There is a really important difference between interference attempted and outcome swayed. It’s quite important to focus on the difference between what may have been attempted and what actually resulted.”
He said he agreed with Andy Burnham’s comments in the House of Commons yesterday, including about the Russian hack-and-leak that was used in the 2019 general election.

So just to be clear.
The largest economies of the EU are asking for an emergency brake to exist, so they can ignore and stop new EU laws from hurting their economies.
The UK already has that - its called Brexit. We left, so their damaging laws don't hit us at all.
EU capitals must be able to intervene to stop new legislation from Brussels if they say it’s too burdensome for governments and businesses, the leaders of Germany, Italy and Belgium wrote on Monday.

It's Alastair Campbell I feel sorry for.
Imagine being associated with a spectacular claim that makes headlines around the world, only for it to later emerge that it's overhyped balderdash.

If you want to talk about foreign governments meddling in British politics.
The pro-EU group "UK in a Changing Europe" admitted this week that they have been funded by the Spanish Government.
Why on earth would the Spanish Government be funding a pro-EU outlet in the UK?

Unbelievable. Civil servants have threatened a ballot to decide if they will strike for a four-day work week on full pay, a 10% pay rise and remote working protections.
They’re already far from being as productive as they should be.
This bloated institution needs shrinking.

Burnham has shown an uncharacteristic lack of judgment on Brexit. Going back directly on a promise to his own constituents and re-opening the toxic Brexit debate will only remind voters of the appalling way Labour sought to undermine the referendum result in the first place. Really bad politics.

This is just not true. As soon as I became foreign secretary I asked the security services the same question and they replied that there was no evidence of any successful interference in the 2016 referendum, by Russia or any other power.
Either the security services have changed their view - which would be very odd - or Burnham is lying about what he has been told. After all Starmer was in power for two years and had access to exactly the same information.

🤡 Ok lets talk about foreign attempts to influence the Brexit vote (apart from Obama telling us we'd be at the "back of the queue" for a trade deal).... It's quite the list don't you think?
▪️ George Soros – Billionaire financier. Predicted sterling could fall by 15–20% or more, making British households poorer.
▪️ Bill Gates – Warned Britain would become significantly less attractive for business, investment and scientific research.
▪️WEF – published warnings that Brexit could cause profound recession, financial instability and falling investment.
▪️ François Hollande – French President. Warned of consequences for British trade & financial services.
▪️Hillary Clinton – US. Publicly backed Remain supporting Obama's position.
▪️ Angela Merkel – German Chancellor. Publicly backed remain.
▪️ Jean-Claude Juncker – European Commission President. Warned Britain not to leave.
▪️Justin Trudeau – Canadian Prime Minister. Warned that Britain would not get easy or automatic trade agreements after Brexit.
▪️ Donald Tusk – European Council President. Warned Brexit could have serious political and economic consequences.
▪️ Enda Kenny – Irish Prime Minister. Warned Brexit could threaten stability in Northern Ireland.
▪️ Shinzo Abe – Japanese Prime Minister. Warned Brexit could threaten Japanese investment and more than 100,000 British jobs.
▪️ Michael Bloomberg – American billionaire, former New York mayor. Supported Remain and warned of economic and employment consequences.
▪️ Li Ka-shing – Hong Kong billionaire. Warned Brexit would damage Britain.
▪️ Wang Jianlin – Chinese billionaire. Warned Brexit could affect Chinese investment in Britain.
▪️ Jamie Dimon – JPMorgan Chase CEO. Warned that thousands of British financial-services jobs could be at risk.
▪️ International Monetary Fund (IMF) – Christine Lagarde warned the economic consequences could range from "pretty bad to very, very bad".
▪️ Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – Predicted Brexit would leave British households thousands of pounds worse off annually.
▪️ G7 – Formally declared Brexit a serious risk to global economic growth.
▪️ G20 – Identified Britain's possible departure from the EU as a potential shock to the global economy.
▪️ European Commission – Warned Britain would lose existing privileges and face new trade barriers.
▪️ Bono and U2 – Irish musicians. Supported Britain remaining in the EU.
▪️ Liam Neeson – Irish actor. Encouraged eligible Irish voters in Britain to vote Remain.
▪️ Patti Smith – American singer. Supported a public appeal asking Britain to stay.
▪️ Jean-Michel Jarre – French musician. Supported an appeal opposing Brexit.
▪️ Lilian Thuram – French former footballer. Supported an appeal asking Britain to remain.
The scale of attempted foreign interference in Brexit was extreme...
And in the face of ALL of the opposition, in the face of all the threats to force us to comply... the majority voted Leave anyway 💣

This is a slightly surreal Commons statement from Andy Burnham
The major unfolding Ukraine crisis on which the UK is expected to lead, and an Iranian state attack on Britain, have been mentioned only very briefly almost as causal asides
Instead the PM is headlining this Commons statement, his first appearance in front of Parliament in weeks, on minor developments in EU relations that frankly pale into insignificance in comparison
And even the EU section of the statement has been derailed because of the row over his Brexit/Russian interference comments

Burnham "interfered" with the Makerfield vote, lying to them about not restarting the Brexit debate.
Difference is that Burnham succeeded and now leads us due to a lie.
PM says it is 'clear' Russia interfered with Brexit vote bbc.in/4hOBPS4
Regardles of your views on Brexit, at a time when public trust in our political establishment is already at an all-time low, this level of brazen contempt not only for electoral legitimacy but for the PM's own political dignity is simply astounding.
Burnham is playing with fire.

He has certainly stopped the press talking about Manchester City and the UAE.
Andy Burnham says it was clear Russia interfered in the Brexit referendum after he sought answers about the allegations when he arrived in Downing Street.
But the PM does *not* disclose who gave him the assessment, what evidence it was based on or - crucially - whether any interference had affected the result of the 2016 vote.
Last month at the UN general assembly, Burnham attacked Russian information warfare, saying there was evidence Moscow had tried to interfere with the 2019 general election.
In this podcast, he says the UK needs to be more open about attempts by hostile states to interfere in its politics, particularly as European leaders grapple with the rise of the far right.
