One hill I'll happily die on: the normalization of "ship fast" culture at the expense of proper SDLC has played a significant role in the quality of vulnerable code being pushed into production and the rise of CVEs and enshitification of software for the last several years.
We've systematically traded engineering rigor for velocity, security assurance for investor confidence, and long-term maintainability for quarterly growth. All things I wish we would second guess and reevaluate.
But the software overlords wanted products yesterday and they got them. And now the rest of us get to spend the next several years discovering exactly which corners were cut and figuring out how to deal with the immense amount of responsibility that's been dropped on our collective feet.
“While the act of creation is inherently satisfying, there’s a danger: one might find satisfaction in the labor itself and mistakenly believe that a high-quality piece of work has been created,” he said.
very insightful comment from miyamoto
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete.
"There will always be a role left for us to play."

spiritually, it feels inevitable that AGI is born in California as a kind of useless and largely uneconomic toy, and then dragged to New York, caged and put to work by men in grey tall towers that poke and prod it until it spills trillions out filtering through PDFs
ok ill nibble.
Elon's org's arent flat. he is at the top of all of them. he sets directive/alignment which allows for "clean" execution.
Mark can afford to take risks. risk taking is cheap when you can spend through it.
Lessons from @elonmusk and Mark Zuckerberg and Napoleon:
“Elon has demonstrated that if you have a small, incredibly cracked, highly technical team, that's very flat, you can accomplish a lot very quickly.”
“Mark has internalized that failure doesn't matter. It just matters when you win, how big you win.”
“That concept enables Mark to operate without fear because he’s just very comfortable taking lots of risk.”
“Mark has this great quote that says: The biggest risk is not taking any risk. In a world that's changing the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.”
“In the book The Mind of Napoleon, Napoleon repeats that hesitation is fatal. Napoleon says before you engage in a course of action you should deliberate thoroughly. He'd study from every angle to make sure he's making the right decision. But once he’s sure he’s on the right path, he goes all in. I feel there's an echo with the way Mark operates. Once Mark knows what he wants to do, he empties the clip.”

my argument is that all code is slop. slop is simply a slur and not a real objective definition. everyone considers code they wrote good and what others wrote that they don’t understand slop
it’s not a useful term for a true discussion on the topic. I’d maybe ask you to define what you mean when you say slop

me writing the worst novel of all time in 2004: he's a 2020s defense contractor executive with a baby face, mullet, and a wispy ballsack beard. his company is named after a sword from Lord of the Rings, loves to wear Hawaiian shirts, and hates divorce. his name is Palmer Luckey
Palmer Luckey reveals the startup he'd build today: oxytocin doping to end divorce
"I would try to end the tragedy of divorce with oxytocin doping for marriage counseling."
"We understand mammal pair bonding pretty well. There's a lot of people who want to stay together. Most of the people who don't want to stay together should stay together, especially for their kids."
"And we can, if people think SSRIs are fine, which they're not, but if they were, then oxytocin doping to stay together is definitely fine."
"It's the mammal pair bonding chemical. There's things you can do to increase the uptake, and it's very well understood. Also, totally unregulated, which is great. Unregulated spaces are a lot easier to do. You can go buy a kilogram of oxytocin on Sigma Aldrich Chemical Supply right now, and if you do that, maybe you won't die alone."
"It's pure biology. It's used for women who don't bond with their kids, and now for women who don't bond with their husbands. It's also used for kids with various neurological issues, some kids with autism who struggle with pair bonding."
"The cool thing is it's a self-reinforcing loop. We understand that very well. Unlike most drugs, it doesn't form a chemical dependency. It actually unburdens you from a chemical dependency."

cannot imagine being paid for a service, jerking off for 8+ months, then saying it's the buyers fault for not specifying a timeline and saying otherwise is "guilt tripping". some people are truly detached from reality

What the f*ck is this drug trip
I told Opus 5.5 to make a cow that runs. This is what it gave me for $6.80.
It runs on its f*cking udder. Four teats as legs. Then it jumps a fence in slow motion and lands like a pancake.

pro-AI people/companies who disregard artists complaining that their craft is being stolen by AI and then ban AI writing because "If you don’t take the time to write it, why should anyone take the time to read it." are the worst hypocrites
