Super interesting work from @atmccann on vaccine eligibility. I am ready for the day when everyone is eligible.
been thinking a lot about vaccine inequality lately — this piece is the result of working with NYT reporters across more than a dozen countries (and lots of U.S. states!) looking at who is eligible vs. who is actually being vaccinated nytimes.com/interactive/2021…

As always, @rsaxton_ doing beautiful structural work and then taking insights from the structure to stimulate likely important clinical therapies in the future. Congrats, Bobby! Excited to see what you’ll do next...
Very excited to share our work on IL-10 out today in @ScienceMagazine! We solved the cryo-EM structure of the IL-10 receptor complex and used it to design myeloid-selective IL-10 variants that uncouple its pro- and anti-inflammatory effects science.sciencemag.org/conte…

Thanks @DMSabatini! It was an honor to follow in the footsteps of so many talented female grad students... and to pass the torch along to the next generation!
A great day to point out that several fantastic women scientists, including @yasesancak, @rlwolfson, @XinGu0317, Lynne Chantranupong, and Shuyu Wang, have driven what is likely our most important work—nutrient-sensing by mTOR. #InternationalWomenDay2021

Missing my family today, but so grateful for my lab family ❤️ @harvardbrainsci

Beautiful work from @hankadel et al introducing a new technique for rapidly purifying melanosomes and an example of the amazing things you can discover with it! Looking forward to seeing what else you can find in melanosomes...
Excited to we debut MelanoIP, a new method for rapidly purifying melanosomes! With MelanoIP, we elucidate the function of MFSD12, a recently discovered pigmentation protein. nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

On my first day at the Whitehead, Angelika gave me her unvarnished view of me: I needed to be baptized and stop working on rapamycin. From that day on I was in awe of her honesty and brilliance and humor. She was our greatest scientist and human. Rest in peace my dear friend.
We are very sad that @AngelikaAmon, first generation PhD student at the IMP, former IMP board member, and lifelong friend of the house, has lost her battle against cancer. Her contributions to science form a lasting legacy we are grateful for. Our thoughts are with her family.

Check out @SSebastianChoi’s beautiful work identifying two parallel ascending pathways in the anterolateral tract that are necessary for conveying tactile and noxious information from the periphery to the lateral parabrachial nucleus. It was such a pleasure to contribute to this!
Finally out! Our work describing parallel ascending spinal pathways for affective touch and pain now out in @nature. Huge thanks to Koerber/Ross @decouvriez labs and Junichi now at @spinalcordgroup for awesome collaboration! and all other authors too! nature.com/articles/s41586-0…

Novel work from the @sokol_mdphd lab elucidating the role of sensory neurons triggering dendritic cell migration in the allergic response. Congrats @sokol_mdphd et al! Can’t wait to see what will follow
It's been an absolutely stellar week for the Sokol Lab! Our group’s first paper is now online at @ImmunityCP. In this paper @MdPerner @theILCguy & @XuepingZhu show that sensory neurons detect allergens and activate DCs to initiate allergic immunity. (1/x) cell.com/immunity/fulltext/S…

Great perspective by Mark Leick in @NEJM! It was a pleasure to work on a team with Mark at the beginning of the pandemic — Mark (an onc fellow) worked as a medicine resident due to the surge... and didn’t miss a beat when introducing himself as a “JAR” instead of a fellow!
Beautiful piece by @MGHCancerCenter fellow Dr. Leick about compassionately communicating with our patients and families during the COVID pandemic. Shoutout to our amazing JAR @rlwolfson who was the intern mentioned! nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NE…

Really careful work to answer the long unanswered question: how is glucose sensed by the nutrient sensing pathway upstream of the Rags-mTORC1. Spoiler: it’s not glucose itself! Congrats @JoseMOrozco! nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

Really cool finding: a novel enzymatic function of histones. Congrats, @NarsisAttar et al!
After many long years filled w/ delight and disappointment, often in the same day, our paper on a new function of histones is out @ScienceMagazine! Thx to incredible team @NarsisAttar @OA_Campos Maria Vogelauer @jencheng65 and many collaborators. science.sciencemag.org/conte…
