One of the most insane missing persons cases ever
On the night of March 31, 2006, Brian Shaffer, a 27 year old Ohio State medical student, went out in Columbus to kick off spring break. He'd had a brutal month. His mom had died of cancer just three weeks earlier. But he was still going to class, and in two days he was flying to Miami with his girlfriend. He had dinner with his dad that night. Then he and a friend hit the bars. Just after 1 a.m., security cameras caught Brian riding an escalator up into the Ugly Tuna Saloona, a packed second floor bar near campus. Around 1:55 a.m., the cameras caught him again, just outside the entrance, chatting with two young women. Then he walked out of frame, back toward the bar. That is the last time anyone has ever seen Brian Shaffer. The cameras never recorded him leaving. Not on the escalator. Not through the front. His friends waited, called him, and eventually went home. Monday morning, he never showed up for his flight. Up to 50 officers searched at a time in those first days. Over the years, police have sifted through more than 5,000 tips. His phone was never used again. His bank account was never touched. His credit cards were never charged. Two years later, his father, still searching, was killed when a tree fell on him in his own yard. Then in 2026, a podcast got a tip naming a possible person of interest. When they brought the name to a Columbus detective, they learned police had already been given that same name by one of Brian's friends back in 2006. 20 years later, no body. No arrest. No answer. He walked into a bar full of people, in front of cameras, and vanished. How?

Despite the nice accent and fancy title, this woman is nothing more than a common thief. A common thief with the power of the state behind her.
I said it in 2020 and I’ll say it again. If you leave a home empty long-term in the middle of a housing crisis, it should be seized. Today’s announcement is great news.

Javier Milei claims to admire Margaret Thatcher but forgets this lesson: Britain does not surrender to bullies. If he wants a stronger Argentina, he should build its economy, not threaten others. But there’s also a lesson here for our sleepy Labour government. The madness of surrendering the Chagos Islands means other countries are now trying their luck. If we do not defend our own interests, whether on energy or territory, others will happily exploit that weakness.

Awful. Hope this account will have some uplifting news in the coming weeks to help us move past this massive aviation tragedy.
Pop star Aaliyah has died at age 22. A private Cessna 402 aircraft crashed near Marsh Harbour, The Bahamas, killing the pilot and eight passengers aboard, including Aaliyah. The NTSB is investigating.

Is this really necessary?! Making everyone’s phone go off like an air raid siren?! I thought these alerts were supposed to be for incoming asteroids and such.

What is a woman?
A reminder that yesterday, today, tomorrow and always: trans women are women and trans men are men. Proud to represent a Borough that recognises that protecting women doesn't need to come at the expense of trans people's safety and dignity.

Argentina are utter scumbags. Fernandez should be in prison.

Nobody on the English side looks like they are actually enjoying the game. They all look miserable. Bellingham is the only one who seems to believe they can win.

I am not a fan of this ITV commentator. Too serious, too prosaic. Feels like I’m in a business meeting. I want John Helm back. He knew how to tell the story of the match as it unfolded.

I cannot understand this push to make capital gains tax equal to income tax. You earn £20,000 and you pay tax on it. Simple. But if you own an asset… the value of that asset could go up or down. Maybe you end up selling it at a loss. Will the government introduce a capital loss subsidy to cover this? CGT is lower than income tax to account for the risk of losing money - a risk that does not exist for income.

No, you don't get it. He does not have $1 trillion sitting in cash, it is 99% stock in his companies. To make that wealth liquid would mean selling all that stock which would swiftly destroy *both* the companies (Tesla, SpaceX, others) and the wealth. If he sold it all, he'd end up with maybe $100b max, several hundred thousand people would be out of work, the companies ruined and many of their suppliers also ruined. Okay, but now Elon has $100b in cash, and can "solve the world's problems". $100b divided by the world's 8 billion people is $12 If you were in charge, several of the most innovative industrial companies in the world would be destroyed, hundreds of thousands out of work, and space would again close to human civilization for another generation. But everyone on earth could have one nice meal and you could revel in your altruism.

If you listened to the British media today, you'd think Henry Nowak was killed by Nigel Farage's comments.

I’m not going to amplify Reform’s ad by sharing it, but the wilful misrepresentation of Kemi Badenoch - selectively quoting what she said about ‘white lives matter’ - is disgraceful and dangerous. It needs to be challenged, including by those of us who are not Conservatives.

Reform putting out an attack ad on Kemi Badenoch misquoting her over Henry Nowak’s tragic death is a deeply misguided, ugly and offensive move. A young British man was murdered. He died cuffed and begging for his life, alone in the street. To weaponise his death, so vindictively, in order to make a viciously deceitful graphic attacking a political opponent is low. I am not in the same party as Kemi Badenoch. In fact, we are competing for votes in Makerfield. I disagree with her on a great many number of policies. I would never manipulate the death of an innocent young man to score petty party political points, especially using such blatant lies. It’s just not how we conduct ourselves in Britain. Principles still matter, or at least they should.
