When folks are investigating the root cause on the outage call and you know it's a bug you pushed..

Now that @rootconf is nearing, customer support is inundated with calls and emails about "AI creators". At first, I wondered if the agencies are offering bots or agents. Then, on one call today, I asked, "what/who is an AI creator?"

Excited for @gaurav25d’s talk at RootConf!
When AI agents become the primary users of observability, everything changes: 1000x more queries, raw unaggregated data, instant answers, and radically lower costs.
This demands a fundamentally new architecture, with reliability and security more critical than ever.

Talking to database people is such a breath of fresh air amidst all this AI chaos :)
For the last one hour, I was talking to Joran (@jorandirkgreef), the creator of TigerBeetle DB, and he shared a great way to think about infrastructure code.
The total cost of ownership of an infrastructure component like a database is very low relative to the value it delivers. The number of people using it is huge, and the lifetime of this code is also very long.
So even if you spend a year handcrafting it, it can be totally worth it. The world will keep using it for a very long time, provided it is good.
Infrastructure is not just an expense or throwaway code. It is an asset.
He also shared a beautiful line that I will be reusing a lot: "The database is the last bastion of software craft."
In fact, last week, I rebuilt MongoDB in Rust and got 4x storage savings, 3x faster performance, 100% compatibility, and blah blah blah...
But I had no confidence in what it actually did (even when tests passed) because I do not fully understand the codebase of something that will be mission critical.
The person building a database needs to be highly confident in what it does, how it works, and why it works that way; hence, the craft.
We spoke about so much more, but this is the part I thought would be most useful to share with you all.
Hope this helps.

The quality of the talks and takeaways from @rootconf has only gone up over time. If you work on platforms or the infra layer powering AI applications, agents, and all the jazzy things — attend this edition.
If you have wartime stories or battle scars from building and operating such systems, consider submitting. Happy to chat and help you refine the submission, content, and final talk (if selected).
Cheers!

@rootconf has a penchant of giving platform for great talks. The secret behind is the effort @zainabbawa and team puts to improve the quality of the talks with reviews for the speaker. I can personally vouch 😀 .
If you are an engineering leader and want your team to present the amazing work they do, make a submission. Exciting proposals already, go do it hasgeek.com/rootconf/2026-cf…

Anyone in IT or infosec who has an inclination towards lifting the veil from AI systems should look at hasgeek.com/rootconf/2026-cf… the submissions list is an awesome collection of work that people are doing behind the scene to get us the so called AI we use. The open CFP process of @hasgeek @rootconf is always a delight to look at. cc: @zainabbawa

Prompts are the easy part.
The real challenge with AI agents begins in production: observability, isolation, access control, cost guardrails, rollback and recovery.
This is where AI starts looking a lot like a platform engineering problem.
Join us tomorrow for a hands-on workshop on how to operate agents reliably in production!
AI agents in production need more than prompts.
They need observability, access controls, cost limits, isolation, rollback, and recovery.
