Eleven years before Michael Jordan, Nike gave NBA star Spencer Haywood 10% of the company. While Haywood was on a road trip, his agent sold the whole 10% stake for $100,000 in cash—just to collect his $10,000 fee. In the video below, Haywood is asked if he is still friends with the man who sold it. His answer: "Yes." In 1973, Haywood was 24 and averaging 29 points a game in Seattle. Phil Knight came to him and asked him to wear his new shoe. Knight didn't have the cash to match Converse. So he offered Haywood stock instead. "First of all, I was young, too, and I'm thinking: livestock? What are you talking about? Stocks," Haywood says. Haywood took the stock. His agent had a problem. An agent gets 10%. Ten percent of stock in a tiny shoe company couldn't pay his bills. Ten percent of $100,000 in cash was $10,000 in his pocket right away. So the agent kept telling Haywood the shoe would never work. At the time, Nike only made running shoes for Steve Prefontaine. When Haywood ran down the court, defenders stepped on his heel and popped the shoe right off his foot. Before leaving for a road trip, Haywood gave in. "I said, 'Okay, man, I give you the power of attorney. Let me just go play. I got to really focus on this game now because this is my chance.'" When Haywood came back, the stock was gone. "He had sold that sh*t," Haywood says. "He said, 'Man, I got the cash right here — 100,000.'" Matt Barnes asks him what that 10% of Nike would be worth. "It was up around 2.7 billion," Haywood says. "Years ago." At Nike's peak, 10% was worth over $8.6 billion. The case for the agent: in 1973, Nike was a tiny Oregon running-shoe company, and the shoes literally fell off Haywood's feet during games. Could you stay friends with a man who cost you $2.7 billion?

Sylvester Stallone doesn't own Rocky. He has to ask a 95-year-old man for permission to play a character he invented, and that's who he means by "the other fellow." The guy's name is Irwin Winkler, and the story of how he ended up owning Rocky instead of Stallone is wild. Back in 1975, Stallone was a broke actor with $106 in his bank account. He wrote Rocky in three and a half days. Studios loved it and offered him up to $360,000 for the script, but they wanted Burt Reynolds or Ryan O'Neal in the lead. Stallone turned all of it down and took about $75,000 plus points so he could play Rocky himself. Great call for his career. Terrible call for ownership, because the rights went to the producers, Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. When Rocky won Best Picture in 1977, Stallone sat in the audience and watched the two producers walk onstage to collect the Oscar for the movie he wrote. Fifty years later the franchise is at nearly $1.8 billion across nine films, and Stallone's cut is an acting paycheck. Winkler still controls the character. It boiled over in 2022 when a Drago spinoff got announced and nobody even told Stallone. He went off publicly, called Winkler a "parasite" picking clean the bones of characters he created, and admitted the thing that actually stings. All he ever wanted was a piece of Rocky to leave his kids, and he never got it. So yeah, he'll do Creed 4 with Michael B. Jordan. He just refuses to work with the man who bought his life's work off him for $75,000 when he was desperate, and honestly, who would.
Sylvester Stallone Says He’ll Never Watch ‘Creed 3’ But He’s Open to Making ‘Creed 4’ With Michael B. Jordan. When asked if he could ever bring himself to watch Creed 3, Stallone gave a blunt answer. “Never.” He clarified that his feelings weren’t about Michael B. Jordan, whom he described as a nice guy, or the studio. “But it’s just been such a real rough emotional ride, that’s all. And it really has.” “If Michael B. Jordan, we come up with a story, I’ll do Creed 4 with him, as long as the other fellow is not involved.”

It's been a couple of weeks since UFL billionaire co-owner Mike Repole unsaddled the Bham Stallions because, he said, Protective Stadium was too big. Well, Protective reached out and asked me to share its response with him. al.com/news/2026/08/johnson-…

13yr NBA vet, CJ McCollum effortlessly breaks down how to STAY in the league, get your 2nd Contract & set your family up for generational wealth. He lays it all out on the table! “This is money you’re going to NEED when you’re 50yrs old” “I maximized my blessings, I’ll be able to stop playing when I want to stop playing, I won’t be FORCED OUT” —CJ on not blowing his money & making smart investments such as real estate & 30+ alternative investments🍷 CJ: “I don’t have the all the answers to everything but I know how to make money” “I know how to stay in the league, I know how to show up on time, I know how to take coaching, I don’t get in trouble off the court, I know how to invest, I know how to do a lot of things right, and I know what NOT to do ‘cause I’ve seen it” “For young player, If you want to stay in the league, just look around, see whose still hanging around, see who continues to get contract after contract, see whose making $5,000,000 that shouldn’t be making $5,000,000” “You gotta maximize your earning potential” CJ highlights the importance of NOT having an Ego & reaching out to your peers: “I reach out to Steph Curry when it comes to shooting” McCollum has earned more than $300,000,000 in the NBA and still is playing at a high level. The league & more importantly PLAYERS need more CJ McCollum’s in the league. DOPE.
