Pleasure to host a reception in Parliament with independent advice organisations from across the country to mark Advice Week 2026 and the launch of @AdviceUK'sΒ #AdviceSavesΒ campaign. From debt advice, social welfare, housing, immigration to employment - advice organisations help change people’s lives and strengthen communities. My constituency is home to a number of fantastic advice organisations including @ToynbeeHall, Praxis and @PositiveEast. I’m immensely grateful for the crucial support they provide to people locally and across London. @stephenctimms @sarahsackman

Today’s Labour Budget provides targeted support to my constituents with the cost of living: βœ… Β£100 energy payments: Households in Council Tax Bands A-D will receive payments directly into their bank accounts in January. βœ… Lowering energy bills: Extending the 0% VAT rate on electricity until July 2027 and removing gas standing charges. βœ… Freezing fuel duty: The fuel duty freeze alongside an extension of the 5p cut will save motorists an estimated Β£230 across the Parliament. βœ… Raising the Minimum Wage: The National Living Wage increasing to Β£13.21 an hour and the National Minimum Wage to Β£11.27, benefiting 2.3 million workers. βœ… Supporting first time buyers: Launching Your First Home, to help around 70,000 first-time buyers purchase a new-build home with a smaller deposit and mortgage. Other important measures announced by the Chancellor include: - Β£1.5 billion extra for social and affordable housing, on top of the Β£39 billion already committed. - Β£55 million of funding to tackle violence against women and girls - 70,000 small businesses across the country will be made exempt from business rates.

My Budget today will help families with the pressures they face now. It will back businesses and entrepreneurs, invest in Britain's future, and strengthen our national security. A plan to get through this moment and build a stronger Britain.

It was a pleasure to be hosted by @QMUL's Political Society (Politea) to discuss life as an MP and careers in politics and public life. There were some great questions from students about the challenges facing our country and about different routes into politics.

It was great to speak at the critical minerals roundtable and forum in my capacity as Co-Chair of the All Party the Parliamentary Group on Indonesia. The demand for critical minerals is predicted to increase exponentially, as they are essential components of electric vehicles, wind turbines, and solar panels. Transparent and reliable critical mineral supply chains will be crucial to the UK and Indonesia’s shared goals of tackling climate change and ensuring sustainable economic growth.

Today, we met with local residents who use and treasure Victoria Park to hear their concerns about AEG’s and Tower Hamlets Council’s plans to increase festival days within the park. As local MPs, we want to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring local resident’s concerns are listened to and the community gets the fair hearing it deserves. Please see our joint statement below:

It was great to visit Mencap, a charity based in my constituency, who support people with learning disabilities through advocacy, employment programmes, community projects and a nationwide helpline. I look forward to continuing to work with @mencap_charityon the need to improve accessibility, employment opportunities and public services for people with learning disabilities.

I was pleased to join a panel discussion with ShareAction, a not-for-profit organisation based in my constituency, looking at how communities and pension savers can be empowered to have a greater voice within the pensions system. I know how important ShareAction is for encouraging ethical investment decisions to consider the interests of pension savers, workers and investors.

Demand for advice is rising. Funding isn't keeping pace. Our latest report found that 75.6% of member advice organisations say rising demand is driving capacity pressures. Every day, advice services help people avoid crisis, keep their homes, access benefits, manage debt and navigate complex systems. But without secure, long-term funding, more people risk missing out on support when they need it most. Through #AdviceSaves, we're calling on government to: βœ… Recognise free, independent advice as an essential local service βœ… Provide long-term, sustainable core funding for advice organisations βœ… Develop and fund a National Advice Workforce Strategy to support recruitment, retention, training and career progression across the sector

Ministers, MPs and representatives from across the UK’s independent advice sector came together yesterday for the #AdviceSaves 2026 Parliamentary Reception. It was a great event, with a packed room, bringing together people to celebrate the life-changing impact of independent advice services and the people who work in them. We are deeply grateful to all who contributed, including our speakers @rushanaraali MP, Minister @sarahsackman, and Minister @stephenctimms, who all emphasisedΒ the essential role of advice services in their constituencies and across the UK. Thanks to all who joined us yesterday. #AdviceWeek

This morning I heard from the team at @ToynbeeHall about their latest advice services and research with young people not in employment, education or training. Very grateful for all the important support and advice @ToynbeeHall provides to my constituents and people across the UK.

I am delighted to support the @BreastCancerNow Wear It Pink 2026 campaign. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the UK, with 60,000 women and 450 men diagnosed every year. Although 9 in 10 women now survive breast cancer for five years or more, it remains the biggest killer of working-age women. That’s why it is vital to be breast aware, recognise changes and seek medical advice. Two-thirds of breast cancers are found through self-checking. Early diagnosis saves lives. In England, 98% of people diagnosed at an early stage survive for five years or more, compared with just 32% of those diagnosed at stage 4. At Barts Health NHS Trust, 98.6% of people urgently referred for suspected breast cancer received a diagnosis or had cancer ruled out within 28 days in 2025, exceeding the national standard of 90%. However, 64.9% of people diagnosed with breast cancer began their first treatment within 62 days of an urgent GP referral, below the national target of 85%. We must do more to address this disparity. On 23rd October, wear pink to show your support and help raise awareness of breast cancer. Take a moment to check for changes. Seek medical advice if you notice anything unusual. Raising awareness and acting early can save lives.

It was great to attend the Curry Life Awards ceremony celebrating our world famous British curry chefs and entrepreneurs. The curry industry generates over Β£4 billion and 100,000 jobs for the UK's economy.
