Kemi spent most of her response attacking the Tory welfare record. A reminder that under their watch: Neets up 250k between 2021 and 2024; Welfare spending rose twice as fast as in this Parliament; Millions signed off and written off on sickness and disability benefits.

Congratulations to everyone at @CarersUK for this big campaigning win. Well done also to the hundreds of carers who spoke out about the impact of the 'cliff edge' on Carers Allowance. Only fair to give credit to @stephenctimms as well for the way he has driven change within Govt
6 in 10 carers who faced issues working while claiming Carer’s Allowance said it affected their ability to work. 4 in 10 said they’d left work because of it. Removing the earnings limit cliff edge is a major breakthrough after years of campaigning. carersuk.pulse.ly/fthpzqix1u

Absolutely buzzing! Stratford International will finally live up to its name - and be INTERNATIONAL thanks to today’s Budget. This is what can be achieved when a Labour Government, Labour Mayor and Labour MPs work together to deliver for our communities 🙌🏾 This campaign began nearly 40 years ago, but it is this Labour Government that has got it over the line. Proud to be part of the campaign to make this happen. Thank you PM & Chancellor! And @stephenctimms
Great news that the Government has confirmed it will help us finally bring cross-channel rail services to Stratford International, making it truly international for the first time. Huge opportunities for jobs, investment and tourism, and - crucially - bringing us closer to Europe.

Pleasure to host a reception in Parliament with independent advice organisations from across the country to mark Advice Week 2026 and the launch of @AdviceUK's #AdviceSaves campaign. From debt advice, social welfare, housing, immigration to employment - advice organisations help change people’s lives and strengthen communities. My constituency is home to a number of fantastic advice organisations including @ToynbeeHall, Praxis and @PositiveEast. I’m immensely grateful for the crucial support they provide to people locally and across London. @stephenctimms @sarahsackman

Second, something way too often missed by commentators: the UK is doing more than anyone else in G7 to strengthen our public finances. We are delivering the fastest fiscal consolidation in the G7 and forecast to have the smallest deficit in 2031

Great to see @SadiqKhan making the case for bringing cross-Channel services to Stratford International. This would be a game changer for local communities, increasing connectivity, boosting jobs, and attracting investment.
Stratford is one of Europe’s great regeneration success stories. It’s ready for its next chapter - European rail links. I’m proud to say I’m working with the government to deliver new cross-Channel trains from East London. The benefits would be felt far beyond our city. cityam.com/sadiq-khan-run-in…

🏠 More than 325,000 people in supported and temporary housing can keep more of what they earn under reforms taking effect today. Social Security minister @stephenctimms said the change removes a cliff edge that could leave people worse off when they increased their hours. “For too long, the system has been doing the opposite of what it should,” he said. 💷 Families who lose a loved one to mesothelioma or another occupational dust disease will get the same government compensation as sufferers, Social Security and Disability Minister Sir Stephen Timms has announced. At present dependants can receive less if the sufferer dies before a claim is completed: around £10,700 on average, against £17,700 for sufferers. The new rules close that £7,000 gap. Timms said families "deserve our support, not a system that treats them as an afterthought". The regulations are due to take effect on 31 October, subject to Parliament. When people voted Labour in 2024, they wanted the sort of policies @andyburnham announced today. Labour is on the side of ordinary working people and I'll work with Andy and his government to make sure Newham benefits from this strong, principled Labour government
