Bizarre- Newslaundry accessed and examined the list of investment proposals that were mentioned in Mohan Yadav’s February reply. Its biggest entry, worth Rs 3 lakh crore, is from a company set up less than eight months before the summit, which ended its first year with Rs 10,556 in cash and bank balance. newslaundry.com/2026/10/29/a…

Modi’s government says it is open to hearing concerns from media groups about its privacy law and wants to protect press freedom; these are first ‌government comments since major media publishers, including Ambani’s Network18, Adani’s NDTV, Indian Express and Times, challenged the legislation in the Supreme Court. tinyurl.com/mr4btj5n

NEW: The Times’s Credit Crisis A recent New York Times front-page feature on chemical plants in the Trump era had deep reporting, stark data visuals, and an uncanny resemblance to a smaller outlet’s earlier investigation. Was this a case of unacknowledged inspiration, a steroidal dose of Times exceptionalism, or sheer coincidence? puck.news/media/2026/10/did-…

At least 61,059 Form-7 applications seeking the deletion of names from Karnataka’s electoral rolls were filed by election officials themselves, with not a single application mentioning a reason for the deletion, a mandatory requirement under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960. ✍️@pon_vasanth and @rishitaakhanna thehindu.com/news/national/k…

Official handle of Uttar Pradesh election commission.

China and India in a standoff at multiple locations along Arunachal border since July, India hosted Xi Jinping from Sep 11-13 for the BRICS summit. “In the past few-days, a situation arose where face-off happened at several locations in Arunachal and it still continues,” ITBP D-G Shatrujeet Kapur said on Thursday. This is the first official confirmation of the scale of the continuing tensions on the north-eastern border since July this year. Government sources told The Hindu that since late July, India and China have been engaged in a stand-off at Asaphila near Taksing in Arunachal Pradesh. The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is said to have pitched tents at an elevation, within 6-7 kilometres of India’s perception of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) near Maja company operating base in Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri district, sources said. The SIR has led to removals for reasons ranging from "logical discrepancies" to people being recorded as dead, leaving many such as Prasad struggling to get more than just their voting status restored.
