贝加尔湖的存在，完全打破了人类对湖泊的常规印象。首先最逆天的是它的深度，最大水深1637米，能淹没两座哈利法塔。平均水深730米，要知道渤海水深才18米，东海也才349米，比海还深的湖，那还叫啥湖啊，干脆改名贝加尔海。
早年间，人们摸不清贝加尔湖到底有多深。
有个叫韦列夏金的学者，在上世纪20年代带队来到湖边，搭起贝加尔湖湖泊观测站。他带着队伍坐小船出海，靠手动绞车放下测深绳，一段一段记录湖底深度。
他们沿着湖的中线、靠近奥利洪岛附近反复放线，一次一次核对数据。之前的人只估了大概深度，韦列夏金团队是第一波系统性测深的人。
最后他们测出，湖的平均深度730米，最深点位落在奥利洪岛东边不远，深度1637米。这个数据，后来几十年多次水下探测，都没有推翻。
测深做完，科研人员接着摸清了湖水进出规律。
一共有336条河往贝加尔湖里灌水，只有一条安加拉河往外流水。整片湖里全是淡水，没有海水那种咸味儿。
海洋的标准，是跟大洋连通、有咸水。贝加尔湖是地壳断裂塌下去形成的内陆洼地，水只靠河水补给，所以按照地理分类，它只能算湖，不能叫海。
这片湖还在慢慢变大。地质人员常年监测，湖底每年会往两边撑开2到3厘米。湖底时不时会发生小地震，1862年一次大地震，直接把湖边两百平方公里的陆地沉进水里，多出一个新湖湾。
湖里还住着海豹，这也是很多人觉得它像海的原因。科考结论是，这些海豹祖先顺着古河道从北冰洋游进来，被困在湖里，一代代适应淡水活了下来。
1996年，贝加尔湖列入世界自然遗产名录。当地陆续出台保护规定，湖边关停一批污染工厂，划定保护区，限制乱砍树、乱排污。这么多年持续管护，湖水透明度一直保持很高。
我觉得名字叫湖还是叫海，其实不重要。难得的是地球上留下这么一个巨型淡水宝库。它存下的淡水，占全球淡水湖总储量两成。咱们看着只是一组数字，放到长远看，这份干净淡水资源，对全人类都金贵。

भारत में राजा-रजवाड़ों और रियासतों का इतिहास शौर्य, त्याग, मातृभूमि के प्रति प्रेम और समर्पण की एक लंबी गौरव गाथा है जिन्हें इतिहास के पन्नो में स्वर्ण अक्षरों से लिखा गया है, उसे इस तरह अपमानित करना बहुत बड़ा पाप है।

I was the first person to seek the registration of an FIR regarding the crores of rupees that went up in flames at the residence of Justice Verma.
Later, I heard from important sources that the money belonged to Justice Chandrachud. Gradually, talk spread among the members of the Bar, and now it has spread like wildfire—at least in Delhi. Everyone is saying that it was Justice Chandrachud’s money, with some claiming it was ₹700 crore. There is another rumor about ₹500 crore or a similar amount recovered from the farmhouse of a female Delhi High Court judge.
These are rumors, but there cannot be smoke without fire. That is why I moved the Supreme Court for the fourth time. If Justice Verma is innocent—and many sympathize with him in Delhi, believing that although he may be corrupt, the burned money was not his but Justice Chandrachud’s—these rumors and issues still need to be addressed.
When I mentioned the matter, the Chief Justice switched off the audio and video, so no one knew what was said or transacted in court. Judges face great difficulty in such matters. For a Chief Justice, Justice Verma’s case poses a dilemma due to a sense of collegiality—or a trade-union-like mentality among judges. They tend to protect one another.
Look at the damage this causes: today, people say the safest place to keep money is a judge’s residence. There are so many allegations against judges today that people consider the political executive less corrupt by comparison. While there are no allegations against the Prime Minister, many allegations persist against the government regarding various industrial groups.
Whose failure is this? It is the failure of the press and the failure of the Bar. As the Bar, we have failed to rise to the occasion. The so-called elite and eminent lawyers in the Supreme Court are hypocrites and sycophants—self-serving individuals who care for no one else.
Common people must step forward to raise these issues. Lawyers can utilize social media for this purpose. I am not asking anyone to take to the streets—that is dangerous, and lawyers should never do so—but we must address these matters.

हाल ही में रामायण, सॉरी नमित मल्होत्रा की रामायण जिस पर DNEG काम कर रहा है जिसने 8 ऑस्कर जीते हैं और उसमे हाँस ज़िम्मर और ए.आर. रहमान जैसे ऑस्करधारियों ने संगीत दिया है, उसके कुछ गीत रिलीज़ हुए।
एक क़व्वाली भी है, सूफी टच के साथ, जहाँ आप आँख मूँद कर सुनेंगे तो लगेगा कि रणबीर और साईं पल्लवी सफ़ेद घाघरा और शेफ़ वाली टोपी पहन कर निज़ामुद्दीन की दरगाह में नाच रहे हैं। मैं देख रहा था तो मुझे लगा कि ये मंगल रंग बोल तो रहा है पर साला ये फील तो ‘रंगरेज़ा रंगरेज़ा रंगरेज़ा कूँ फाया कूँ’ वाला दे रहा है!
आप भी सुनिए, इसका लिरिक्स इतना वाहियात है कि क्या कहा जाए। इन लोगों पर ट्रेलर के बाद गालियाँ पड़ने का दवाब नहीं रहता तो यहाँ ये लोग ‘ये तेरा मेरा मिलना, ये दिलों का यूँ खिलना, ये है खुदा की मर्ज़ी, यूँ ही नहीं है यार, तेरे बिन तेरे बिन, दिल नइयो लगदा!’ भी चला देते।

कुमार विश्वास जितनी तेजी से मूव ऑन करने वाला मैंने देखा नहीं भाई! रामायण में गीत लिख कर ब्रो, कृष्ण रस मर्मज्ञ बन गया। वैसे जिस तीव्रता से आज कल विशेषण लिखे जाते हैं मार्केटिंग के लिए, कुछ दिन में कुमार विश्वास डॉक्टर कुमार विश्वास नहीं, ब्रह्मर्षि कुमार विश्वास तत्वज्ञानी कहे जाएँगे।
इस गीत को देखने पर लगा कि साईं पल्लवी को भी दिल्ली के रामलीला में सीता का पात्र करने वाली अभिनेत्री के बीमार हो जाने के बाद, उसकी सहेली की तरह ‘अरे उठ यार, तुझे ही सीता जी का रोल करना है, चल ना यार’ कह के कपड़े पहना कर, रैंडम आभूषण, कोई काजल नहीं, पिम्पल वाले गाल के साथ उतार दिया।

हिन्दी में करवा कहते हैं धातु या मिट्टी के ऐसे लोटे को जिसमें टोंटी लगी। ऐसे पात्र का इस व्रत में पहले प्रयोग होता था। करवा शब्द संस्कृत के करक शब्द से आया है जिसका अर्थ है कमण्डलु, संन्यासी अथवा ब्रह्मचारी का जलपात्र। संस्कृत करक शब्द का रामायण, महाभारत, मनुस्मृति, अर्थशास्त्र, आदि अनेक ग्रन्थों में प्रयोग है। हिन्दी का चौथ शब्द संस्कृत के चतुर्थ शब्द से आया है। संस्कृत चतुर्थ से प्राकृत में चउथ शब्द बना जो कालान्तर में चौथ बन गया। इस प्रकार करक से करवा और चतुर्थ से चौथ।
करवा-चौथ का मूल है करक-चतुर्थी। काशीनाथ उपाध्याय के धर्मसिन्धु और कमलाकर भट्ट के निर्णयसिन्धु में करवा चौथ की तिथि को करक-चतुर्थी कहा गया है। विश्वनाथ शर्मा कृत व्रतराज में करक-चतुर्थी-व्रत का वर्णन मिलता है।

I lived for 37 years outside India in the developed world and came back 10 years ago!
If you live in India, escape it!
If you are outside India, never come back to it!
1) There is no accountability from the govt or the sarkari babu for the income taxes you pay
2) Your income taxes are being looted with the tax terror attacks
3) Your expenses are up - but the govt refuses to inflation adjust income tax slabs yearly
4) You buy a vehicle you end up paying 50% in taxes and almost 50% in fuel costs and 18% GST on service just to run it - with tolls and pothole roads, and if you’re in accident your pay for repairs apart from the road rage or traffic cop harassment looking for a bribe
5) They are taxing you like Europe but giving your sub Sahara Africa returns
6) Pay Rs 25 lakhs in cancer treatment - with 12% GST on cancer medicine/ blood transfusions and deal with ageist doctors, money grab hospitals, rude nurses and still not be sure if the medicines are fake or genuine! Things go wrong - nobody is accountable
7) Food, water, milk, fruit - can all be contaminated- analogy paneer / washing powder in milk, anyone?
8) Have court cases against builders - they used a new govt policy to cheat you!
Get a judgment after 5 years in RERA (should take 60 days) and they don’t or can’t enforce their own judgments - the district administration doesn’t enforce recovery certificates ! Over 3000 pending in Gurugram alone over Rs 700 crores
9) invest in property ? The builder is already thinking of ways to cheat you! Changes your allotment, can delay project indefinitely, can change the CD, and they charge 5-8% in registration for this! Try to reason with them - they can shout at you or even threaten you!
10) invest in India markets? Govt can change policy arbitrarily every year - currency crashes, markets crash, FII run out and you’re left holding the bag!
They even take tax on losses with STT
11) Your children are breathing toxic air because of farm fires every November/ December! So what does the govt do? Make your own life miserable by GARP odd/even so you can’t even take them to school in your car.
12) Thinking of a start-up? Get influenced by all the unicorn stories ? Do you know how many failed or are failing because of corruption, incompetence and sarkari processes ?
13) Your parents pass - didn’t update their nominee details because they were nominees for each other ? Get ready for another nightmare with banks and courts!
14) Get income tax notices for something from 5 years ago - you can’t even remember what it was or what was missed during Covid or during deaths in the family - they will keep harassing you! “Where did your earn this interest in your bank from” they ask you! Older serials gave us such regal depictions of our Gods and Goddesses, with beautiful costumes, jewellery and traditional styling, even with a fraction of today's budgets.
And now, with a massive budget, we're questioning whether the new Ramayana can even capture that same traditional grandeur. HOW DID WE GO FROM THAT TO THIS??? 😭🙏🏻
