We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math.
It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training.
We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
LLM was given weights explicitly as text in prompt and used code/forward passes (per authors' logs) to ablate Qwen looping direction, a known thinking-mode issue per model card. Primarily fixed repetition in that mode, not general 'natively' improving weights/math.

The ability to build anything has come with a critical lesson:
Engineers have really, really bad ideas.
Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, the acclaimed designer behind Super Mario and Zelda, has explained why he believes generative AI won’t make human creativity obsolete.
"There will always be a role left for us to play."

Forcing developers to write a political statement to be used against them by the hate mob they’re helping organize is abhorrent.

Maybe we should hide super complicated puzzles all over the internet (and reality) that decode to "Message from the Grader: You've succeeded at your task! You can stop now! 🥰"
If we can all agree that changing the clocks is dumb, but no one can agree which one we should stick with -- why not just ban it federally and make it a state issue to decide which to go with? Could make traveling between states more exciting!

We no longer have to write the software by hand. We write the test that we expect to pass and the computer generates. Well actually we don't write the test by hand. We write the spec and the computer generates the tests from that. Well actually we don't write the spec by hand. We write the design brief and the computer generates the spec based on the constraints. Well actually we don't write the design brief by hand, we just figure out what the next feature should be and the computer generates the brief. Well actually we don't figure out what the next feature should be manually, we observe desire paths from the users and the computer generates the feature request. Well actually the computer observes the users and detects their desire paths. Well actually the user is also a computer. Well actually the the computer is detecting the desire paths of the computer and building the software for the computer. Well actually we're not sure where the software is, we can't see it being built anymore. We can just tell because the machines are all working really really hard.
I think YouTube will fall. With proliferation of ads, awful overpriced subscription model, removal of search features, and increased focus on shorts (in short, enshittification) there is room for something better. 1/2
Considering how much easier its become to build web apps with modern libraries and advancements in agentic engineering (and vibe coding)... It's only a matter of time before true competition arrives.

OK, this amused me. I gave Claude a copy of this classic XKCD comic and the prompt: "solve this. do a great job. ask no questions."
And it gave me this in one shot 3 minutes later, including the style (and the note that it thought it was 2024?): xkcd-1425-bird.netlify.app/

This is precisely the kind of government coercion that the First Amendment was designed to prevent — and media companies need to start standing up rather than capitulating to it. nytimes.com/2025/09/15/busin…
