Old enough to remember when conservatives went on and on about moral hazard and about Nancy Pelosi's husband's investments.

The Trump administration keeps denying and downplaying that immigration agents have been detaining Americans. It’s wrong. We’ve found more than 500 U.S. citizens have been held against their will, including handcuffed or held at gunpoint. projects.propublica.org/amer…

Imagine your 16 year old daughter starts dating. She introduces you to her new boyfriend. He's 29, has 2 other girlfriends, deals drugs for a living, and is getting into pimping. Prior domestic assault charge And your spouse is like "what's wrong with that? Let them date!!"

There's a very serious argument to be made that the single worst event in American history was Al Gore losing the 2000 election.

Notice the absence of the traditional olive branch? The olive branch symbolized America prioritizing peace with war as a last resort. It has been part of the Great Seal of the United States since 1782 and was part of the original seal of the Department of Defense.

For years, Project 2025 architect Russell Vought has set out to erode our system of checks and balances of power and to concentrate power in the hands of one person: President Trump. Now he’s quietly making it all happen. Listen to this episode: propub.li/4B1tYJQ

Donald Trump is the authoritarian socialist president that Republicans used to warn about.
If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000! Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks!
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This repeats a promise Trump made in September 2026. The US has approximately 250 million adult citizens so the total cost would be over 1.25 trillion dollars. Congress must approve any such federal spending. nytimes.com/2026/09/10/us/… pbs.org/newshour/polit…

Mariupol. Archival footage, but the pain hasn’t faded. Over 100,000 lives lost — buried under rubble or in mass graves. How can such horror happen in the 21st century? How can crimes of this magnitude go without justice? russia must be held accountable.

It’s a legit question to ask how levels changed since 2000. Spending is up & revenue is down. But if you want to ask how the *structure* changed relative to when we had a stable outlook — i.e., what created the fiscal gap — spending is actually down, meaning it’s all tax cuts.
Its a common and effective talking point, but not true. Below is a comparison of the 2000 vs. 2026 federal budget. Tax cuts have totalled 2% of GDP (unrelated economic factors also reduced revenues). But spending has jumped 5.7% of GDP since 2000. Lots of blame to go around.

She was being asked to kill people who are suspected — not convicted — of carrying drugs. A lot of those men and women will be badly traumatized being tasked with such an unlawful and immoral mission.

This is such a reprehensible way to behave. To destroy even the long-term idea of a professional judiciary and law enforcement agency for short-term political gain. Grassley isn't the only one who plays this self-destructive game. But it's especially disappointing from him.
An Iowan frm Osage donated $10 to Pres Trump   Jack Smith subpoeaned their personal check & handed their private info incl home address + bank info 2 the Biden DOJ/FBI   When runaway Democrat govt is in power IOWANS pay the price

When Jan 6th happened, Republicans, led by Mitch McConnell basically said: "let the courts handle it" (rather than confirming his impeachment by the House) Then, when the legal system tried to handle it, the Republicans said: "how dare you! This is a partisan prosecution!" You see in fantasy land, you can have your cake and eat it, too. All of us stuck here in the real world, end up with a shit sandwich.
The Jack Smith testimony is being treated like a partisan political circus. Not because Smith's efforts were partisan in motivation, mind you. I mean we don't say that a criminal defense attorney is an accessory to a crime, simply for doing their job. But people seem to think Smith was treating Trump and his sycophants in Congress unfairly by simply doing his job. When Smith got the toll records of members of Congress, people went bananas. But what was he supposed to do? Not get that information? It's vital to building his case! And it's not as if he got the content of private calls/texts. It was just the time/date. What is the point of having laws if we're okay with someone potentially breaking them, so long as they're on the right team? Just apply the simple "if it weren't Trump" test. If it were Barack Obama, and Democrats, being investigated for their alleged role in a plot to overturn an election, I can safely say that 99% of the people attacking Jack Smith now, would be cheering him on. Sad state of affairs for this country.
