Turns out good will hunting was actually a biopic of ben affleck
Ben Affleck reveals he writes Python, understands convolutional neural networks, worked extensively with GPUs, and used his celebrity status to get private looks at Google and OpenAI’s video models
“I’ve always been kind of into computers since I was young. Then, when film started to move from analog film to digital, I became more interested in that aspect of it. The visual-effects workflow for many years has included machine learning, so I can write pretty shitty Python scripts and stuff like that.
“With convolutional neural networks, which were the precursors to what the transformer can do, which is much more computation simultaneously, you would do things like look at what’s called a tensor. That’s the numerical translation of a visual image in numbers, like the batch number, the frame number and the red, green and blue values of each pixel in each frame. It’s just that simple. That numeric is called a tensor.
“You’d use a convolutional neural network to identify patterns that reveal what’s called edge detection or feature extraction, which is identifying patterns well enough to know, this is where the window ledge is, so we can more easily take the green-screen image out and replace it with something.
“That was familiar to me early on because, prior to Artists Equity, I had a small visual-effects company. I’ve worked with GPUs a lot too. The visual-effects guys said, ‘Hey, you should see. There are a couple: Google and this other company, OpenAI, are doing really interesting stuff with transformers in video.’
“I’ve learned that I can actually just call up and go, ‘Hey, it’s Ben Affleck. Can I come see what you’re doing?’ Sometimes people say yes, to my astonishment.”
Adobe spent the last decade finding ways to increase subscription pricing with minimal product innovation. Now this.
This guy re-created all the adobe apps with opus-5.5, ported them to rust, and opensourced them
something really cool is happening
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
These projects are partial open-source Rust reimplementations of Adobe apps (built rapidly with AI agents), not complete recreations; their READMEs and roadmaps document many missing features and features still in development.

Every 4-5 years, $META hops on the latest hype cycle. Stock pops on some big vision (metaverse), meta overspends and under delivers, stock tanks, zuck cuts spending and promises more discipline. Rinse and repeat.
Life satisfaction is predicted by pro-social behavior, impulse control, hard work, self-agency, curiosity, and organization.
AI will never perfectly replicate human taste because taste is an emergent property of our imperfection.
I like certain designs because my mind can't perfectly distill information into logical fragments the way AI can.
Replicating imperfection is harder than replicating logic.
What I hate most is that the em-dash in this made me wonder if it was written by AI
Search is full of ads and wrong answers. Every other email is an ad. Prime Video charges you and shows ads. Paramount? Ads. Peacock? YouTube? Hulu? Ads followed by more ads. Netflix full of ads. Meta and X, every other thing is an ad. Pinterest is nothing but ads. AI is in everything. AI finishes sentences incorrectly and won’t stop. AI reads your email and search history to target you with more ads. Every time you open an app or visit a site there’s an update making it worse. In a hurry? First, click here to agree to terms you don’t have time to read and must accept. You need an account to do that. Change your temporary password. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email and enter that code. Now use a passkey. Your password is too simple to remember. Change it. No, not like that. Now log on. Enter your 2FA code. Check your email for a code… Welcome back! We’ve updated our terms of service and privacy policy (you have none). Subscribe to the site. Subscribe to Netflix. Subscribe to toilet paper. We’ve got to update your laptop and will slow down everything you do until you agree to update. But first, click here to agree. Update installed — your laptop’s broken now. It doesn’t matter, since your boss just replaced you with AI. Go to your phone to complain on social media. Wait, your phone needs an update so we can add more AI. Click here. Oh sorry, your phone can’t handle this update. Now it’s useless. Go get the newest phone. Here’s a text from a friend, an email, a voice mail they left three days ago but you didn’t see until now because of sync problems with the cloud. It’s their GoFundMe. Their MLM. Their Patreon. Never mind, you didn’t respond to their text within 9 minutes and now you’re no longer friends. They blocked you. Make new friends. Download this app to find people in your area. In your neighborhood. On your street. Two doors down from you. Do you know this person yet, we think you’d get along. You need an account to use this app. That username is taken. Enter a password. That info is circulating now, too. Here’s a spam call, a spam email, a spam text. Why are you angry? Why are you talking about getting rid of your phone? Why don’t you like AI, it lets us make all of this easier? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? This is progress. You’ll be left behind. Do you want to be left behind? Do you???
I would guess the causation is in reverse. Emotionally unstable people experience psychological suffering first hand and are therefore more sympathetic to the need for collective/gov support.

Your perception of reality is a strong influence on whether you go on to develop a mental health condition.
What does the democrat party teach you?
- I’m a victim.
- It’s misogyny.
- It’s racism.
- It’s classism.
- Etc.
It does not teach responsibility and ownership.
They would rather point the finger outward than inward.
That belief does not get you far in life.
Tall men are 4x more likely to be liked by women on dating apps than short men. Interestingly it only matters in a hetero context. Gay men and gay women have no preference for height. inni.date/blog/does-height-m…
Clavicular says women on dating apps are filtering out 95% of men with one metric
"Every single inch you grow past 6 foot you're adding an additional $500 to your average annual income in America"
"Women are literally filtering out people completely under outrageous height percentile.. they put their height filter on 6'3 and they just eliminated 95% of men right off the bat"
I see people doing drugs or having a psychotic break on the ttc almost every day now. Glad the city is working on plant equity tho
Have you heard of tree inequity?
It’s when some communities have fewer trees than others, leading to hotter streets, less shade and poorer air quality.
Toronto is the first city in Canada to adopt a tree equity approach. Using the Tree Equity Tool, we combine land‑cover, demographic and socio‑economic data to identify where more trees are needed and help residents explore planting options in their neighbourhoods.
If you’re looking to help create a greener Toronto, you can request a FREE tree in front of your home. 🌱

18-year-old Melika Azizi has been executed by the Islamic Regime in Iran under the charge of being an
"Enemy of God" (Moharebeh).
She was violently arrested during the nationwide January protests in the city of Masal, Gilan Province of Iran, following her participation in protests against the Islamic Regime.
Melika was held in Lakan Prison in Rasht, where she was subjected to physical abuse and denied contact with her family, who also faced pressure by the Islamic regime's security forces.
Rest in Peace, Melika 🙏💔
I suspect this is true of ADHD as well. Disorders, by definition have to be abberations from the psychological norm. A "disorder" that becomes ubiquitously diagnosed ceases to have meaning.
Autism:
“The spectrum has become so accommodating that I fear that it has now been stretched so far that it has become meaningless and is no longer useful as a medical diagnosis.”
Problem is that psychologists, and increasingly a flood of master’s level therapists have come to rely on the autism diagnosis to support their practice. Their livelihood. I suspect schools face a similar reliance on autism diagnoses for extra funding.
Furthermore: Parents love it because their child gets extra services. Students love it because it makes them special. Drug companies love it because they profit from drugs.
Psychologists are supposed to be the gatekeepers on diagnoses, but we are not doing very well at it.

20 years ago today (Aug 15, 2004), 16-year-old Atefeh Rajabi Sahaaleh was publicly hanged from a crane in Neka, Iran.
Sahaaleh was convicted of fornication under Iranian Penal Code Article 221 (a crime against chastity) when she was 13 years old. Following a police raid, she was discovered alone in a car with a boy.
She was jailed and given 100 lashes. While in prison, she was further allegedly tortured and raped by prison guards. She told her grandmother that she could only walk on all fours because of the pain.
In the following years, she was arrested twice more for crimes against chastity, and both convictions were punished by flogging and jail time.
Under Iranian Penal Code Article 136, a fourth conviction for a hadd crime for which the punishment was carried out three previous times results in the death penalty
That fourth conviction started in May 2003, when Sahaaleh was arrested at home and charged with adultery and immorality.
Police presented a report which they claimed supported the charges against Sahaaleh, but the only signatures on the report were police officers and other local authorities
The judge presiding over the trial was Haji Rezai. After Rezai interrogated Sahaaleh, she confessed to being raped by Ali Darabi, a married 51-year-old ex-revolutionary guard turned taxi driver.
Sahaaleh was raped repeatedly by Darabi over the previous three years. Judge rezai had personal grudges against her and refused to trust her testimony
When Sahaaleh realized that she was losing her case, she removed her hijab, an act seen as a severe contempt of the court, and argued that Darabi should be punished, not her.
She removed her shoes and threw them at the judge. Rezai sentenced Sahaaleh to death. Her lawyer appealed to Iran's Supreme Court in Tehran, where the verdict was upheld due to Sahaaleh's confession and three prior convictions for similar offenses
Her age was falsified to 22 to allow execution, violating Iran's own treaty obligations against executing minors. Before the noose tightened, she pleaded: "If you forgive me, I will never look into the eyes of a man again." She asked the crowd for forgiveness. She was executed at the age of 16 and her body was made to spat on by children
She was the youngest victim of Khamenei moral police apparatus which doesn't follow any law protocol or transparency.
