A high school receiver set his school's all-time receiving record, earned all-state honors in three different sports, and still couldn't get a real college offer.
Across three varsity seasons at his Utah high school, he caught 163 passes for 2,709 yards and 40 touchdowns. As a senior, he set the school record outright — 1,750 yards and 17 touchdowns in a single season.
That same senior year, he was named 3A All-State First Team in football, basketball, and baseball, all at once. Two years earlier, he'd already made All-State Second Team in football as a sophomore.
None of it moved the needle much. His only real offer, outside a couple of Division II programs, came from a junior college a few miles from his front door.
He took it — and led every junior college program in the country in touchdown receptions that season, setting a school record along the way. He averaged nearly 20 yards every time he caught the ball.
Still, no Power Conference program called. He transferred again, this time to Weber State, and spent a spring learning a new offense.
Then he entered the transfer portal a second time — and one particular phone call changed everything.
It came from the one program he says he had wanted his whole life. Months earlier, that same program had wanted him too — they simply didn't have a scholarship open for a receiver, and had to let him go.
This time, a spot opened. His own words when the call finally came: "BYU is a place I wanted to be my whole life."
Coaches point to an unlikely reason he can do things other receivers can't — he was a level 15 gymnast as a kid, years before he ever caught a football, and it shows in how he controls his body in the air.
His path echoes another BYU receiver's story almost exactly — a player who once turned down bigger offers to walk on in Provo, and went on to make it all the way to the NFL: Dax Milne.
His name is Reggie Frischknecht.
Now you see the whole picture.

“We spend a lot of time focusing on the parents. Are they going to be fans of their son or parents? Are they going to hold them accountable? Have an expectation that when something goes wrong, that it’s not the coach’s fault. Their son has to work harder, do more, earn his role,” Dan Hurley
The role of a parent makes a difference in building a TEAM culture.

Great college players don’t equate how well they’re playing to scoring.

This is so true. Similarly, a candle loses nothing by lighting another candle! In fact, one candle can light thousands!
Choose to light candles, not blow them out.
Unless you are a child and it's your birthday, in which case, do you!

A big misconception is that you need to be motivated to get rolling.
You don't.
Research: Motivation often FOLLOWS action, not the other way around.
In Practice: You don't need to feel good to get going; you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good.
