One of the most expensive problems in Nigeria is our obsession with copying success instead of understanding it.
Honestly. I it’s one of the reasons so many talented people remain trapped in endless cycles of chasing the next big thing.
Look at LagosLife.
Shalom built something extraordinary, that went viral, and suddenly everyone is building a game. Developers who had no interest in gaming 2 weeks ago are now racing to launch their own versions.
Now.
Here’s what many people are missing 📌 the opportunity was never simply the game. It was the thinking, execution, timing, distribution and market insight behind it.
You can copy the idea in a weekend. You cannot copy the years of experience, product judgment and accumulated advantage that Shalom brought to the table to make the original work.
The saddest part is that you and your clones will get traction because the market is excited.
And that’s the tragedy. Brilliant people will spend the next 3 months chasing someone else’s opportunity, only to return to where they started.
Meanwhile, the smarter question is sitting right there:
1a. How can I apply what LagosLife has demonstrated to an industry I actually understand?
1b. Can I build on the ecosystem, partner, distribute, or solve a problem this moment has revealed?
Inspiration should expand your thinking, not replace it.
People who build enduring wealth aren’t necessarily the fastest to copy what is working. They’re the ones who understand why it works and figure out where their own advantage lies.
We need to do better. Too much talent goes to die in this dark valley of copyrism.
