Coast Guard Busts Largest Marijuana Smuggling Case in Nearly 10 Years, Seizing Approximately 815 Kilograms of Drugs The Keelung Investigation Team of the Coast Guard Administration, working in coordination with an interagency task force, successfully intercepted a vehicle transporting drugs in Ruifang District, New Taipei City. Authorities seized a total of 815 kilograms of narcotics, including cannabis flower, amphetamines, and ketamine, with an estimated street value approaching NT$1.618 billion. The seizure marks the largest marijuana bust in nearly a decade. After conducting intensive surveillance and tracking the suspects, the task force moved in and arrested them on the spot as they were transferring burlap sacks filled with drugs. Investigators subsequently traced the operation to its source and dismantled the entire criminal syndicate allegedly led by a suspect surnamed Lee. The operation successfully prevented a massive quantity of drugs from entering the market and endangering young people and countless families. Premier Cho Jung-tai also personally visited and commended the personnel involved in the operation, recognizing the achievements made possible through interagency cooperation.
