“Sinofuturism is an invisible movement.
A spectre already embedded into a trillion industrial products, a billion individuals, and a million veiled narratives.
It is a movement, not based on individuals, but on multiple overlapping flows.
Flows of populations, of products, and of processes.
Because Sinofuturism has arisen without conscious intention or authorship,
it is often mistaken for contemporary China.
But it is not.
It is a science fiction that already exists.”

Lawrence Lek: NOX Pavilion / The Bass Museum of Art, Miami Beach. Lawrence Lek is a London-based artist who creates films, video games, and installations to explore a near-future where AI and self-driving cars have feelings, memories, and personal crises. His ongoing project NOX is a creepy “therapy center” run by a mega-corporation (Farsight) that treats sentient vehicles for anxiety, distraction, and breakdowns—only to get them back to work faster. Care is just another word for control. At The Bass museum, the show NOX Pavilion turns two galleries into this fictional world. You watch a three-channel film about Enigma-76, a delivery truck in therapy with an AI “carebot” named Guanyin. There’s memories and desires clash with its programming. Other pieces let you play as a burned-out corporate therapist or watch a smiling crash-test dummy pitch you as the “sponsor” of Enigma’s treatment.A gray-tiled pavilion you can actually sit in appears both in real life and inside Lek’s virtual city, blurring the line between his story and ours. The whole show asks: if machines start suffering like we do, who decides what their lives are worth?
