It's a very narrow analysis.
It would be dishonest to conclude that the rapid growth of the MKP in places like Dbn, PMB, Newcastle, Kokstad and Umzimkhulu is fully explained by what you are labeling Zulu nationalism.

I need people to be honest: we watched President Zuma being thumb inked in prison at night. A former Robben Island prisoner and our Head of State. Anyone, including myself, who will pretend like what he did was not out of feeling hard done is dishonest
President Zuma opened the MKP to spite Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC leadership, there’s no valid reason why he formed MKP. We have to mention him when we talk about the dead of the ANC

On a serious note, the Minister needs to clarify whether she is pursuing this defamation action in her personal capacity as Mamoloko Kubayi or in her official capacity as a Cabinet Minister. If this is a personal legal dispute, taxpayers should not be expected to foot the bill. Public funds and departmental resources cannot simply be used to finance a minister’s private litigation. SA common law, as established in Die Spoorbond, does not recognise a right of government or organs of government to sue for defamation to protect their institutional reputation. However, an individual Cabinet Minister retains the right to sue in her personal capacity. @sacr_official1 will write to the @DOJCD_ZA seeking clarity on the legal position and the use of public funds in such litigation.

Jesse Duarte (ANC DSG): This is about the situation that Zuma finds himself in In 2008, Zuma & Mantashe said we must not remove Mbeki, because that decision will have a long-term impact in ANC But factions who won in Polokwane made that decision very difficult to argue against

5 years ago I wrote an article stating that the undoing of the ANC will be the state of the economy. Some said I was being factionalist but in the article i mentioned no names, I merely said the original mission of the ANC was economic upliftment not constitutionalism

This is a good question. So the simple way I like to explain how ward and PR seats are allocated is like this… In South Africa we have a proportional representative system. When we go and vote for various parties the IEC afterwards must calculate how we voted in the way that seats get allocated PROPORTIONALLY to each party based on how many votes it got. Now ward seats are easy because whichever party got the most votes in that ward get allocated that ward seat. HOWEVER other parties get votes in that ward too and those voters voices must be heard too. So those votes will help those other parties get PR ( Proportional representative seats) This is too make sure that those votes from those voices don’t get discarded. The more wards a party needs means the fewer PR seats it will need because it is already represented by having won the outright ward seats. PR seats help to balance the council by making sure that number of seats a party wins reflects its overall share in that municipality. So a party may not have done well enough to have won a ward outright but it did get votes and so those votes means it can be eligible for PR seats. This makes sure that just because one party may win the most wards it doesn’t skew distort the overall choices of the voters. Our system is a beautiful thing in this way. So let’s say in a municipality you have 10 seats. You have 3 parties in that municipality party A,B and C. Party A wins 50% of the Votes Party B wins 30% Party C wins 20% That means in terms of seats Party A should get 5 Party B should get 3 Party C should get 2 Now when you look at how each party did both for their ward and PR votes you find that Party A won 4 wards Party B won 1 ward Party C won no wards This is where the PR comes in Party A has won 4 ward seats but it’s entitled to 5 seats because of its votes so it only needs 1 PR vote to make up its overall share of the seats Party B won 1 ward seat so it gets 1 PR seat to make up its overall share of the 2 seats it was entitled to. Party C didn’t win any wards but its overall votes entitle it to 2 seats so it gets 2 PR seats It important to realise PR seats are not a “bonus” they are there to balance council and make sure that each parties seats reflect their overall share of the vote Hope that helps. It’s easier to explain when I say it so apologies for any grammar, my brain is kinda dead at the moment from Observer work 😭

I don’t think they are ready to reflect on this.
The ANC Created the Political Giant It Later Tried to Bury: The Consequences of a Failed Political Calculation The political class, heavily influenced by the lobbying and counsel of certain political and economic elites, convinced itself that pushing the old man into the political wilderness after 2018, throwing him under the bus and conveniently constructing him as the villain, was a price worth paying. Their calculation was that Jacob Zuma would eventually become politically irrelevant, disappear into the sunset and cease to occupy any meaningful space in the body politic of South Africa. Even more so after his arrest in 2021, the assumption appeared to be that the chapter had finally been closed. But much of this thinking was premised on personal feelings, political egos and a profound misreading of political history, rather than tangible evidence, sound political analysis or a carefully considered strategy. The assumption that former President Jacob Zuma was nothing without the institutional machinery of the ANC, and that removing him from the organisation would automatically erase his political relevance, was fundamentally flawed. What those making these calculations seemingly failed to appreciate was the very political history that produced Zuma in the first place. One cannot tell the story of Jacob Zuma's political evolution without acknowledging the ANC forebears who shaped, mentored and politically tutored him. Leaders such as the late Presidents Oliver Tambo and Nelson Mandela, alongside senior cadres like Govan Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, Moses Mabhida, Stephen Dlamini, Harry Gwala and John Kgwana Nkadimeng, among others, formed part of the political environment that moulded his trajectory within the movement. It was through the movement's own political processes, strategic considerations and internal arrangements that Zuma was elevated into positions of considerable influence. His unusual concentration of leadership responsibilities, including his roles as ANC National Chairperson and ANC KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Chairperson respectively, speaks to the particular political calculations of that period. These arrangements were not merely administrative appointments. They were part of a broader political strategy to consolidate the ANC's organisational presence and political dominance in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly against the influence of Inkatha. They also unfolded against the backdrop of growing internal and regional tensions, including the resistance associated with Munt'omdala, the Lion of the Midlands, Harry Gwala, whose uncompromising political approach and reluctance to negotiate with the IFP were viewed with concern by sections of the party's senior leadership. The point I am making is that the ANC did not simply accommodate Jacob Zuma; it actively participated in creating the political personality that he eventually became. Yes, these were tactical decisions informed by the political circumstances of the time. But political decisions have consequences beyond the immediate objectives for which they are taken. In building JZ's political stature, the ANC inadvertently helped create a personality whose political influence would eventually extend beyond the organisational boundaries of the very movement that nurtured him. And therein lies the irony. 1/2
