The Age of AI demands planetary-scale Carbon Dioxide removal. @AltCarbonIndia is using volcanic rock dust to geochemically pull carbon out of the atmosphere — and we just proved it works at scale. The world's largest issuance of carbon credits through Enhanced Rock Weathering. ~10,000 tonnes of CO₂ removed. Enough to offset a small AI data centre. India has a history of scientific breakthroughs that stun the world — across medicine, space exploration, energy, & financial inclusion.🇮🇳 Climate Change is the most significant existential threat to our species. It demands Himalayan Ambitions. We're moving mountains to make that happen. Literally.

Launching Junction: come speed-run the semiconductor tech tree this December in Bangalore. We’re flying in students from all over India 🇮🇳 to a 2-week fabrication retreat at @_lagrangepoint to build equipment, design chips and engineer processes, with our friends at @hackerfabindia. India still needs thousands of semicon engineers -- the ecosystem to produce them isn’t mature enough yet -- we're changing that. Current applicants have built vacuum chambers to study plasma physics, RISC-V processors from scratch, scanning tunneling microscopes, et cetera At junction you will: 1. Propose a project 2. Figure out a plan with the Junction team. 3. Iterate fast towards a working prototype, with help from the Junction team 4. Be mentored by top semiconductor hackers and specialists. 5. Demo to industry leaders, founders, investors, and your fellow craftspeople Flights, accommodation and project expenses? All covered. Apply on the link below

at a recent event a senior reliance executive interacting with a bunch of us deeptech founders said that reliance too is a startup a good reminder today that jio went from launch to ipo in exactly 10 years. thats crazy! 121.5 months to be precise. 3,705 days. thats the kind of startup speed VCs pray for. truly inspirational to see how jio & reliance has been able to absolutely transform not only an entire sector but the downstream economic opportunity that this has created across small business, in education, in connectivity, entertainment, building the sinews of the today's indian economy. jio jee bharke!

Introducing, @sonakshi_geog , author of Alter Magazine's Issue #7 on How India Actually Saved Its Tigers Sonakshi is a geographer, researcher, and writer who works in wildlife conservation. For the last several years, she has worked with communities who live around tiger reserves in Central India. She has also worked with the Forest Department on human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and has been fortunate enough to encounter tigers many times since. Long before she saw a tiger herself, she heard what it means to share space with one: the fear, the joy, the longing, and the conflict. Her work has led her to appreciate the many nuances of tiger conservation and this piece comes out of mulling over what it means to love and save the tiger.

The latest piece for @AlterMagIndia is a technological history of how india saved its tigers. It takes you beyond the clickbaits, to understand the history and scientific complexity of the achievement. To launch the latest issue @adadithya and the team have put together an escape-room style mystery. Sherlock Holmes meets Jungle Book. A tiger has gone missing. The records don’t add up. Somewhere between pugmarks, camera-trap photographs and suspicious leads lies the truth. What happened to the tiger? You, the readers & audience, have to figure it out. Taking place this weekend in Bangalore! Register here: luma.com/ghyfu6jt

Mumbai airport is worse every trip. Insanely long lines at immigration counter + at customs. And this is at 2a I the morning! Not to mention barely enough Ubers and taxis available. Worth remembering Lee Kuan Yew’s reasoning for why Changi Airport had to become world class. If Singapore was to be a financial hub for the eastern world, this was the first impression people had of the city. Def not the first impression that India’s financial hub wants to be making….

Ashlee calling out Indian VCs might be my favourite twitter genre
Somehow, @srajagopalan and @lachygroom have managed to fund a hard-tech revolution in India. There's something rather massive going on, and everyone else has missed it. Our story - corememory.com/p/a-new-india…

Tenzing is my favourite movie of the year! Living in darjeeling, I’ve long obsessed over Qomolangma and the figures and myths surrounding the great expedition campaigns to scale Everest. Tenzing is such a tender, well narrated and ambitious cinematic project. It brings to life the Himalayas in all its glory, awe and scale. This film is fantastic. The soundscapes, the visuals, the acting, all of it does immense justice to the heroism of the expedition. But beyond all of this, the greatest achievement of the film is accurately depicting the racial politics of a kiwi (Hillary) and a non Britisher (Tenzing) ultimately making the final ascent on Everest. The nature of discrimination they faced being a part of the British expedition team. At @AltCarbonIndia— one of the principles we have is to embody Himalayan Ambitions (notice the shirt im wearing 👀). I think we’re going to add another operating principle after watching this film. Tenzineering— scaling Everest like engineering and scientific problems with the craftsmanship, obsession and tenacity of a master mountaineer like Tenzing. I may be biased given the number of visuals of Darjeeling and being reminded of home but I highly highly highly reccomend watching it in cinemas close to you! @twhiddleston @AppleTV

What a fun evening chatting Earth Sciences with the Sedgwick Club at Cambridge. It’s crazy to think that the Sedgwick Club, which is housed at the Sedgwick Museum inside the University was founded in 1880 and it is the oldest student-run geological society in the world. Don’t miss the mineral library which is their common room or the LOTR reference. So much to learn for the kind of scientific institutions that India has the opportunity to build!

Great take
Deep tech's risk capital had large contributions from internet entrepreneurs: - Sachin/Binny did Flipkart before funding Ather - Mukesh did Myntra before funding Skyroot - Deepinder did Zomato before funding LAT A country needs groceries so that it can dream of space

I think there is some value to what Anmol is saying here. > at its best quick commerce too is innovating at deeptech levels. After all the supply chain efficiencies & logistics services that @ZeptoNow and others have built is actually quite impressive (if Amazon is deeptech, why isn’t QC) > deeptech is super sexy right now and everyone wants in, but the kind of technical rigour, scientific breakthroughs, and interdisciplinary teams required to make it a success are very rare. All company start off as “grifts” anyway, but I think India now has a new breed of very young, very ambitious founders. How they are able to build together the teams + the capital stacks required to make deeptech a success still remains to be seen > qc might drive the economy in a decade for now, but deeptech has a longer time horizon. Let me put it a diff way— if deeptech doesn’t drive economic growth in 15-20’years, then india might have missed it generational deeptech opportunity. (Worth remembering that QC has now been around in some form or the other for close to 10 years). Space only opened up in earnest this decade. Many other areas (aviation, mining, ocean, defence) are still in the process of making space for startups
Replying to @imDhananjay
in a decade we will realize most of the deeptech is a grift and quick services + quick commerce companies are what drives more for the economy

One the standard Qs i ask during hiring interviews is— what are the technological and public infrastructural buildouts required for reaching a flying car society. At some point during the discussion, we chat about whether the cars being envisaged will require a runway, or a short liftoff (STOL) or whether vertical liftoff is cracked (VTOL). I guess this settles it.
Do a kickflip!

Thanks so much for having @AltCarbonIndia join @Rudra_81 Cant wait to host @orfonline at IISc next month for the Deep Tech dialogues!
Wonderful to see @sparshselim at Raisina Middle East & hear him talk about @AltCarb: a deep tech startup focused on removing 5 million tons of CO2 by 2030.
