Lee Seyoung on understanding her character, Rashta Q. In my opinion, Rashta is one of the most complex characters in the WEBTOON world. What is something you hope audiences understand about Rashta when they watch you in this series?

#AgainstTheCurrent #LiuXueYi Part 2 (final) of the Weibo Vision Conf. interview He's got this tinge of mischief to his answers. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Q: Lately, everyone's also been digging up your mutterings from when you went hiking. If you had the chance to invite a friend to go hiking with you, who would you want to bring? LXY: I wouldn't invite a friend to go hiking, because I don't even go myself. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Q: Ahโ€ฆ you don't go anymore. And because from cooking to singing to dancing, everyone's discovered so many of your skills. If you weren't an actor, what profession would you want to do? LXY: If I weren't an actor, I'd probably open an internet cafe. Being an internet cafe owner would be fine too. Recently, then a guesthouse test sleeper, a food blogger - all of those would work. Q: Oh, why would you want to be an internet cafe owner? LXY: So I could play games anytime. ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ Q: And is there any talent that netizens haven't discovered yet but that you're really good at? LXY: No, what should be discovered has already been discovered. [he said it in such a deadpan way that it had lol-ing] Q: I think netizens could probably dig up even more. Have you met any new friends here today at the venue? LXY: Haven't met any new friends. They're all old friends, pretty much. Q: All old friends. And is there any teacher here at the venue you'd like to collaborate with? LXY: I hope to collaborate with all directors and all actors. Q: Ah, did you see the two directors of Against The Current today? Did you see the directors? LXY: I saw them. We were together for most of the afternoon. Q: And did you chat? Just now, was there also talk about the situation with a second season of Against The Current? LXY: A second season of Against The Current? By the end of Against The Current, everyone seemed to be at that age where those who should be gone are gone. It doesn't really seem to support a second season. Q: If there were a second season, what kind of plot would you want it to have? LXY: The underworld version. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Q: The underworld version, and then what? (host was laughing) What other new work or life plans can you reveal next? LXY: There will also be a drama that should meet everyone very soon. How soon exactly, I'm not very clear either, but it should be soon. Q: That's very reassuring. LXY: Thank you. Q: And finally, we have a quick-fire either-or round. It's either-or, okay? Uh, first one: inviting friends over for a meal ... would you choose to cook yourself and not have to wash the dishes, or wait to eat but be responsible for washing the dishes? LXY: Cook myself and not wash the dishes. Q: Oh, so you still prefer cooking. Uh, when something happens ... would you choose Lin Jinqi's way of expressing through his eyes, or Liu Xueyi's way of just speaking up directly? LXY: Speaking up directly. Q: And next time you go hiking, would you choose to not speak the whole way but have a short route, or chat freely but have a long route? LXY: Neither. Q: Not hiking at all, directly choosing. Then, crocs (casual) versus red carpet leather shoes for a day off going out - which would you choose? LXY: Casual. Q: And if you suddenly got 3 days off, would you choose to immediately make plans with friends, or spend time alone? LXY: Alone time first, then make plans with friends on the second day, then alone time again on the third day. Q: And when you're alone, what do you usually do? LXY: I don't know...isn't this a quick-fire round? Next one. ๐Ÿ˜‚ (He made her laugh) Q: Okay, so our quick-fire round is over. LXY: Ah, it's over? If you'd told me earlier that was the last one, I would have expanded on it for you. Thank you!
#AgainstTheCurrent Weibo Vision Conference interview (part 1) #LiuXueYi his answers always so candid & tinge with humour ๐Ÿ˜‚: Q: We had a bunch of trending topics at the Conference. Did you have time to look at them? LXY: I haven't looked yet. What's up? Q: Uh, there were almost 20 trending topics. LXY: That can't be right. Q: Really. LXY: I should learn from this. Why are netizens' imaginations so wild these days? (they laugh) Q: And there's alsoโ€ฆ LXY: Is this live? Q: It's not. LXY: Ah, alright. Q: Have you seen that netizens have been following Against The Current to the point of obsession lately? And have you gotten used to being called "Lin Daye" now? LXY: I've always been quite used to it. Ah, "Lin Daye" (as in "old man Lin") โ€” I'm not used to that. "Lin Daye" (Master Lin) is okay. (it's a play of words here ๐Ÿ˜น) Q: So would you prefer audiences to call you "Lin Daye" or "Xueyi Ge"? LXY: I think I will always serve the character. I think having the character loved by everyone, recognized by everyone, and familiar to everyone is what makes me happiest. Q: And because Against The Current is so popular right now, everyone is digging up your past ... like your mountain climbing, for example. Do you want people to dig up these things? LXY: It's fine. Every time a drama airs, these things get pulled out again. I'm used to it by now. Q: You're already used to it. So you're open to being "archaeologically excavated"? ๐Ÿ˜‚ LXY: Yeah, that's right. Q: And everyone also feels for you about the days you spent waiting for opportunities. Is there any opportunity you particularly wanted back then that has now come true? LXY: No, actually I want to clarify something. It seems like everyone's been saying I was always waiting for opportunities. But actually I've played a lot of other roles too. It's not like I was just waiting the whole time and then suddenly ...... because I walked step by step by step to get to where I am now and be seen by everyone. I'm very honored that this work could be loved by everyone, recognized and supported by everyone. And in the future, I will continue to work hard to portray every role well. [Love his answer here - it will be a disservice to his past work & characters if people think he's been just waiting for a "breakout" role like this] Q: If you could, what would you say to your past self during that confused period? LXY: I wouldn't say "you should do this or that." Just do what you should do. Be grounded and make sure that every night when you go to sleep, you have no regrets. Q: Your cooking videos have also gotten a lot of attention. If you were to invite friends over for a meal now, what's your signature dish? LXY: I don't really have a signature dish. For all dishes, whenever I see a recipe that looks especially appetizing, I note it down and make it someday. I probably have some basic skills, so nothing I make turns out too bad Q: Or what's a dish you've made recently? LXY: I haven't cooked in a long time. Q: So you haven't cooked in a long time. Must be too busy. (I have translated to midpoint of the vid & will continue later)

Finding a review from someone who has read the original work ๐Ÿฅบ We have the exact same thoughts. Trans : I'm watching #TheRemarriedEmpress, and I feel like the adaptation is pretty good. In the original, the story starts with the concubine issue right away. But in the drama, they spend the first 30 minutes showing the threat to imperial authority caused by the lack of an heir, along with magic and monster hunting, before establishing the worldbuilding. I like that they take more than 30 minutes to carefully show all of this. With the original, readers are already familiar with and have accepted the romance fantasy world, so there's no need to explain those things. But the drama is quite friendly to viewers who are encountering the conventions of this genre for the first time. That's quite a positive point for me. I think Ergi has probably been removed from the adaptation... They've expanded Grand Duke Lilteang's role a little to emphasize the political power struggles within the imperial palace. I think the Grand Duchess originally didn't have much of a presence either... But there's a scene at the hunting grounds where they're riding horses and being chased by monsters, and it really... reminded me of Hope... But seriously, why aren't the male characters wearing shirts?? Please dress properly! Lante went from being a Baron in the original to a Marquis. Where is Karl, though? I feel like they've carefully adapted the story while preserving all the important points from the original and making sure the overall storyline doesn't get ruined. It gives me the impression that they respect the source material. I've seen webtoon adaptations where they take only the most essential element and completely change everything else from the original, more than once. Every time that happens, I can't help thinking, Who do you think you are, director? Do you not understand why this work was loved in the first place? That's how I feel every time.

#AgainstTheCurrent (interviews) #LiuXueYi wrote an article in Guangming Daily: I play Lin Jinqi in the television drama Against The Current. As the series came to an end, I once again looked back on this story, on Lin Jinqi's growth and perseverance along the way. This experience is a vivid and significant stroke on my acting journey, and it has given me new reflections on original intention, responsibility, and the greater cause of family and country. Lin Jinqi's life is one of protecting the small family and safeguarding the greater family. From a young age, he studied with his grandfather, aspiring to the gentleman's way of cultivating himself, regulating the household, governing the state, and bringing peace to all under heaven. He is upright by nature. His mother's teaching that "one tree does not make a forest" also led him to treat his younger siblings with sincerity and to devote himself to being a safe harbor for his family. As a youth, he was once rebellious and stubborn, but his fundamental nature was always kind, and he carried a strong sense of responsibility. After his family suffered misfortune, in order not to attach himself to power and influence, Lin Jinqi joined the military alone, carving out a bloody path with sword and spear amid flashing blades. Over several years, he fought life-and-death battles on the battlefield, both protecting the nation and earning his own footing in the world. After entering officialdom, he navigated among various factions, doing all he could to calm the storms and leave the world with less bloodshed and displacement. And when he realized that holding high office might not guarantee the safety of those around him, he resigned and returned home to protect the family stability and ordinary warmth he had fought with everything to secure. Yet whenever the country was in peril, he still stepped forward, unafraid of danger, and completed his mission. From joining the army to entering officialdom, from resigning office to marching out once more, every advance and retreat of Lin Jinqi stems from the same original heart: protection. This protection is not a simple choice between the small family and the greater family. He clearly knows that without the stability of the greater family, there is no security for the small family. So in times of crisis, he puts the greater family first; when the overall situation is settled, he guards the small family. He is also not a flawless paragon. He has regrets, he has weaknesses, and he cannot make everything perfect. But what is truly admirable is that even as fate rises and falls unpredictably and the world rarely allows for perfection, his original heart of protection never wavers. The heavy burden on his shoulders did not crush him; instead, it gave him the strength to keep moving forward. This is his own unique kind of bravery. In shaping such a character, I am accustomed to first understanding his complete growth trajectory and behavioral logic, then empathizing with his psychology and every choice, and finally bringing a flesh-and-blood, believable, and relatable character before the audience. Lin Jinqi's imperfections are precisely what make him three-dimensional and vivid. And his unwavering original heart gave me the confidence to portray him with care. In the process of gradually understanding and empathizing with the character, I have come to realize more and more clearly that performance must focus on connecting with the audience. Film and television works are not castles in the air detached from reality. To truly bring a character into the audience's heart and give them positive, uplifting strength, one cannot stop at surface-level delivery of lines and actions. One must integrate contemporary value reflections and genuine insights about life into every performance. Only by resonating with the audience can works and characters possess lasting vitality. The times are changing, and the circumstances and challenges people face are changing too, but the concern for family and the sense of responsibility toward the nation are shared. Precisely because of this, today's audience is still moved by him. After Against The Current aired, it also received much affection and support in regions such as Taiwan. I am deeply moved that everyone could emotionally resonate with the characters and plot. This empathy is rooted in our shared Chinese cultural bloodline. The sense of national responsibility, the way of filial piety and righteousness, and the way of the gentleman conveyed in the drama are part of the fine traditional Chinese culture inherited by compatriots on both sides of the strait. Through the small boat of film and television, these shared emotions are conveyed, allowing more people to find spiritual resonance in the story. I am deeply honored and proud to participate in such cultural communication. Portraying Lin Jinqi has also given me many real-life insights. Each of us carries different responsibilities. It might be protecting our family's safety, safeguarding the nation's peace, or it might be upholding the moral principles in our hearts and protecting our passions and ideals. As an actor, what I should protect is the original intention of meticulously polishing every role and treating every work with seriousness. Lin Jinqi is a role I completed with all my sincerity. Though the play has ended, the original heart does not stop. Going forward, I will carry this understanding, hold fast to an actor's original intention, grasp the core of emotional resonance, and portray more characters with warmth, strength, and positive values. As an actor, I will tell stories well and convey the power of responsibility and protection. (Author: Liu Xueyi, who plays Lin Jinqi in the television drama Against The Current) P.S. I always quote the latest translated interview- feel free to follow the thread/ quoted posts for previous ones.
