The most normalized open extortion in Indian middle class life: The Sub Registrar office on property registration day. You spend 10 years saving every rupee from your salaried job. You pay 30% TDS on your income. You pay 7% official stamp duty online via net banking. You pay 1% registration fee through a government treasury challan. Every single paisa is accounted for on your bank statement. Then you reach the government registration office with your builder or seller: The deed writer pulls you aside into a dusty corridor: "Sir, ₹25,000 to ₹40,000 cash alag se lagega for the desk. Official receipt nahi milegi." You: "Bhaiya, I already paid ₹4.5 lakhs in official government stamp duty online!" Agent smiles with complete indifference: "Sir, mat do. Phir file 'Property Under Valuation' mark hoke audit me chali jayegi. 6 mahine chakkar kaatna." You stand in an airless hallway, walk to the nearest ATM, withdraw ₹30,000 cash, and slip it inside the file folder just to get your own thumb impression scanned. We aren't a digital, cashless economy. We are a country where honest taxpayers have to withdraw physical cash just to get legal permission to own what they already paid for. Did your property registration happen 100% clean, or did you have to pay the "corridor settlement fee" too?

उत्तर प्रदेश में विधान परिषद के चुनाव की मतदाता सूची में नाम जुड़वाने के लिए पहली बार ऑनलाइन रजिस्ट्रेशन की सुविधा दी गई है । किसी भी कार्य को पहली बार करने में ग़लतियाँ होने की संभावना रहती है। मतदाता सूची 14,81,310 प्रविष्टियों में से कुल 158 ऐसी प्रविष्टियाँ हैं जिनमें मतदाताओ अथवा उनके संबंधियों के नाम अजीब प्रतीत हो रहे हैं। इन नामों का अजीबोगरीब होना इसी प्रकार की एक गलती है। सॉफ़्टवेयर द्वारा अंग्रेज़ी में टाइप किए गए नामों को हिंदी में ट्रांसलिटरेट करना था परंतु संभवत किसी त्रुटि की वजह से ट्रांसलेट कर दिया। उदाहरण के तौर पर किसी मतदाता का नाम रामहित यादव है तो उसको अंग्रेज़ी में टाइप करने समय यदि त्रुटिवश Ramhit Yadav के स्थान पर Ram hit Yadav टाइप कर दिया तो सॉफ्टवेयर द्वारा इसे ‘राम ने यादव को मारा’ ट्रांसलेट कर दिया। इस प्रकार उत्पन्न हुई ग़लतियाँ को एडिट कर सुधार करने की व्यवस्था थी परंतु जहाँ लोग सावधान नहीं रहे उस जगह इस प्रकार की ग़लतियाँ बनी रही। पिता के स्थान पर B Com टाइप करना मानवीय भूल अथवा लापरवाही है।मंडलायुक्त इस मतदाता सूची में निर्वाचन रजिस्ट्रेशन अधिकारी (ERO) हैं तथा संबंधित जिले के जिला अधिकारी AERO हैं । मतदाता सूची को सभी ग़लतियों से मुक्त रखना इनकी ज़िम्मेदारी है। उनसे इस संबंध में स्पष्टीकरण मांगा गया है। मतदाताओ को इस गलती की वजह से कोई परेशानी न हो इसके निर्देश जिला अधिकारियों को दे दिए गए हैं । @ECISVEEP

RTI requests are being rejected basically claiming that "Public Information Officers of ECI have other work and are busy" This is nonsense because: 👉 Election work is ECI's permanent job. If that excuses delays/not giving info, ECI would never have to reply. 👉 ECI must appoint as many CPIOs as needed. Understaffing is ECI's failure, not the citizen's burden 👉 It has been RULED by CIC several times (e.g. Shiv Babu v MCD) that staff shortage and work overload are not excuses that can be given for not replying in time or for not providing information Basically Gyanesh Kumar is now in panic mode and is using all kind of excuses to avoid getting caught. Question is: HOW BIG are the scams at the ECI that they would go to any extent to hide information?
