M. Night Shyamalan went through a long streak of critical and commercial disappointments from the 2000s through the late 2010s, to the point where he faced considerable ridicule and even racial backlash. But he remained relatively level-headed, was willing to acknowledge his shortcomings, and eventually managed to rebuild his reputation and regain audience interest with The Visit
And I would argue that Waititi is currently a way bigger filmmaker than Shyamalan
