It seems that @ZapataComputing is the first major calamity of the quantum winter 🥶🙁 sec.gov/ix?doc=/Archives/edg…

Wow! Quantum winter is when founders step down 🥶❄️ Regardless of the reasons, I wish the best of luck on all future endeavors!
Yesterday, I left OQC for the last time. After the most incredible 6 years, as we progress with our Series B, it is the right moment to step down and embark on a new journey. It’s been a privilege leading OQC from its start as an Oxford University spin-out to where we are today

The two main objectives for 🇪🇺 eu/acc right now: - European Inc. company type, with fully digital registration and maintenance, paying corporate tax to EU directly and being regulated by one set of EU Inc. laws (preferably modeled after US Delaware Inc, UK Ltd Or SG Pte Ltd) - European SAFE, make the YC-made SAFE agreement to easily invest work in Europe, to improve the way investors can invest in European startups and give equity easily to employees (which makes it easier to recruit talent in Europe so they don't escape to elsewhere)
It was supposed to be an e/acc meetup, but then it became something so much bigger! Now, I need your help to amplify this message. After @levelsio announced eu/acc, and @andreasklinger made the first stream and organized the Discord, I wanted to honor all the effort put into it. So, the meetup’s first presentation was about eu/acc. I believe in what I said, that European Accelerationism is a branch of Effective Accelerationism. We want and strive to maximize technological progress, while recognizing that Europe needs to change some stuff and also catch up with the US rate of acceleration. By that, I referenced the two initiatives “EU Inc” and “EU SAFE”. Join the Discord server (link in reply) to work on these and many others. The initial meetup wasn’t with an AI or deep tech focus, on purpose. We did get attendees interested and working with AI, so our next one will be about this theme. But, the initial message that we wanted to spread was techno-optimism, and our goal was to enable and encourage networking. The other two presentations where given by @VladBogdan1 showcasing @geneziodev, an entirely new Function as a Service Platform, and @ENiKS_CZ presenting the opportunities that VR will bring to the world from his 12 years of experience working on the bleeding edge. We are also creating a local community to organize better and gather more grassroots support. But all pan-European acceleration communities should encourage a pro-European message and start thinking of themselves as part of a unified region. Because in the end, we all want the same thing: to see our civilization progress and move forward, not stuck in decades-old regulations and mentalities! You can find our Romanian community on Discord where we'll organize regular builder meetups and prepare for our next e(u)/acc event. Having an open-source decentralized movement is amazing! It’s a full moon tide that inspires and raises all boats at once. Meetups are awesome to enable the creation of new relationships between attendees, and we were lucky enough to have participants joining from outside Bucharest and Romania. We got help from the outside when organizing, with @ENiKS_CZ traveling from Prague with both AVP for people to demo, but also setup for us to record the presentations (which we will upload soon) and @synthjolt designing, printing, and bringing The Techno-Optimist Manifesto all the way from <somewhere_in_europe>. We also had an unexpected eu/acc T-shirt cameo by @imakecoolsites. A BIG thank you to everyone who helped enabled this, our real organizer @robertaevents, our network of friends @sporadica, @QuanticASI, @arthur_hyper88, @SealedVoid, our inspiration @levelsio, @andreasklinger, @DionysianAgent and @beffjezos. For this, the entire meetup experience was surreal for me and I hope we can replicate this in as many countries as possible. People in Europe are more optimistic about AI, more so than in the US, but our fragmented societies leave decision-making to centralized bureaucrats with zero understanding of how technology works and that is heavily influenced by decel corporate and political lobbies inland and from the US. We need to change that! We need to accelerate! 🚀 Love from Bucharest, Romania, Europe, Pale Blue Dot

The last paper of my PhD is finally out! 📄 We provide a lower bound on the energy improvement of the QAOA. And it is brought to you by (index-1) saddle points 😃 Let me tell you about it in the 🧶 👇

Epic video, but I again what does the chip actually do? I still have no clue…

Apparently Claude 3 is now better at coding than GPT-4. Is that true? Has anyone here tried it out?

Check out "A Survival Guide to a PhD" from the ML 🤖 wizard 🧙‍♂️ @karpathy from back in 2016. Highly recommended for anyone planning to do a PhD or currently in a PhD program. karpathy.github.io/2016/09/0…

Now published in @PhysRevResearch The paper now also includes a link to the code that we used 👇 journals.aps.org/prresearch/…
Check out my recent work together with @IBMResearch Zurich🇨🇭. We pushed QAOA on hardware to its limits and ran it for up to 40 qubits using machine learning 🤖error mitigation and SAT qubit mappings🧮. #QuantumComputing arxiv.org/abs/2307.14427

Honestly I’ve now watched a bunch of Beff’s podcasts and I still don’t get what they are building That interview certainly didn’t help 🤣
What is Extropic building? Here's my attempt to get a straight answer from @beffjezos:

Today, we're announcing Claude 3, our next generation of AI models. The three state-of-the-art models—Claude 3 Opus, Claude 3 Sonnet, and Claude 3 Haiku—set new industry benchmarks across reasoning, math, coding, multilingual understanding, and vision.

No way I got a response from the actual freaking Microsoft Window account 🤣

Now that @Apple is not gonna build a car, we’ll never find out if it would have had @Windows

IONQ merger incoming? @Dell would be my guess.
$IonQ I think they are preparing to get merged to a bigger company. I'll talk more detail on my video soon.

IONQ earnings are out. My thoughts on this statement. Yes, you need a lot of GPUs to simulate QC, but there is no logical connection to imply that this makes QCs good for AI.

While energy consumption might scale better for QC compared to classical AI compute (you get access to a larger comp. space) there are other issues for QML. There is no back-propagation! Everything is linear! Clock speeds are orders of magnitude slower than on GPUs.

While it's tempting to envision a marriage of QC and AI given the current hype, I doubt this will play out any time soon.
