At the @UN General Assembly, I highlighted a defining challenge of the energy transition: moving from targets to implementation at scale.
India’s next phase will be shaped by grids, storage, electrification and integrated energy systems. At @ReNewCorp, we are focused on translating that transition into sustainable growth. #CleanEnergy #UN81 @UNFCCC
At the @UN General Assembly, ReNew Founder, Chairman & CEO Sumant Sinha @sumant_sinha was the only private sector leader to address the gathering, highlighting India’s clean energy progress and the role of business in climate action.
With 44 GW of renewables added in 2025, the next phase calls for stronger grids, storage, electrification and deeper government-business collaboration.

The energy transition is a shared global project, making multilateral cooperation indispensable.
Progress in hard-to-abate sectors like steel and cement depends on shared innovation, investment and action. Rewiring the world’s energy system requires governments, business, civil society and the media to work together.
I spoke with @CNN’s @Richardquest on why innovation and multilateralism remain central to the energy transition ➜ youtube.com/watch?v=GhYA0E8G…

Looking forward to the Columbia-India Energy Dialogue by @ReNewCorp and @ColumbiaUEnergy on 29 October in New Delhi.
Leaders will explore how innovation, AI and value chains can drive energy security and competitiveness in a splintering world. globalcenters.columbia.edu/e…
The economics are clear. As storage scales, the challenge shifts to grids and infrastructure. Faster progress will also depend on open flows of capital, technology and expertise.
In my conversation with @Lagarde, we discussed essentials: scale and cross-border cooperation.

When we founded @ReNewCorp 15 years ago, India’s renewable energy sector was still taking shape. Today, India has nearly 300 GW of renewable capacity and is poised to add 60-70 GW annually.
But electricity is only ~20% of energy consumption. The next decarbonisation challenge lies in hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, transport, industrial heat, and steel, making resilient supply chains and green molecules increasingly important.
Great speaking at the @BBGNewEconomy Forum panel, “Clean Power, Tough Choices,” alongside Amy Brachio and @johnfraher.

Renewables have won the cost debate. Now comes the harder part: reliable delivery.
Storage, grids and affordability will shape the energy transition. And beyond power, decarbonisation will depend on technologies that can scale at the right cost.
Enjoyed discussing this on @CNN Global Perspectives with @klustout, Minister @AsmundAukrust and Elizabeth Yee.

When we set up @ReNewCorp in 2011, one question from investors came up repeatedly: Will the India of today still be there 20 years from now?
Over 25 years in public life, PM @narendramodi’s defining trait has been the ability to turn ambition into execution. From infrastructure and inclusion to clean energy, India’s growing confidence to build at scale is visible across sectors. @PMOIndia
At ReNew, we have been fortunate to grow alongside this transformation, one of many stories shaped by long-term ambition and execution.

Twenty-five years in public life is more than a milestone. It is a reminder of how leadership can shape a nation’s direction.
Over the past 25 years, Prime Minister @narendramodi has championed execution, infrastructure creation, governance reform, and economic ambition. From digital public platforms and modern infrastructure to renewable energy and manufacturing, India’s growth story has increasingly been defined by confidence. @PMOIndia
As India pursues its vision of Viksit Bharat, Prime Minister Modi continues to lead the country to think bigger, move faster, and aim higher.

I congratulate the Government of India on the approval of the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III scheme. This landmark initiative, aimed at enabling the evacuation of up to 135 GW of renewable energy and deploying 50 GWh of battery energy storage, represents a decisive step towards building a modern, resilient and flexible power system. The strong focus on intra-state transmission infrastructure addresses one of the most critical requirements for accelerating renewable energy deployment. The integration of storage will also help manage intermittency, congestion, peak-hour curtailment, and non-solar-hour demand.
With a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore and significant centralfinancial support, GEC-III demonstrates the Government’s commitment to India’s energy transition and its ambition of achieving 900 GW of non-fossil capacity by 2035. This forward-looking initiative will strengthen energy security, promote domestic manufacturing, create employment, and unlock greater private investment across the clean-energy ecosystem. The renewable energy industry looks forward to partnering with the Government and States to ensure its timely and effective implementation.

Strengthening India’s Green Energy Grid
The Union Cabinet has approved Green Energy Corridor Phase-III (GEC-III) with a total outlay of ₹1,86,405 crore to strengthen India’s transmission infrastructure and facilitate the large-scale integration of renewable energy.
With ₹54,082 crore in Central Financial Assistance, GEC-III will support intra-state transmission systems and battery energy storage, building a reliable, resilient and future-ready grid for India’s clean energy transition.

NYCW reinforced a clear shift: the energy transition is moving from targets to delivery, with energy security, resilience and competitiveness shaping the next phase.
At @ReNewCorp, we see this in building clean energy systems across generation, transmission and storage.
As we move towards COP31, the focus must be on implementation: turning ambition into infrastructure, investment and measurable outcomes.

An absolute privilege to meet @MikeBloomberg on the sidelines of #NYCW2026.
Through @BloombergDotOrg and his wider climate leadership, Mike has been a powerful force in advancing climate action and accelerating the global energy transition.
I shared India’s clean-energy story and the playbook captured in my book, #FossilFree, which reflects India’s experience in scaling renewable energy, mobilising capital and building the foundations of a green industrial economy.
As India rapidly expands clean-energy deployment and manufacturing, and geopolitical shifts reshape the global energy landscape, the opportunity is immense.
Ahead of COP31, the imperative is clear: accelerate electrification, stay the course on tripling renewables, and place green industrialisation at the heart of the next phase of the global energy transition.

A chance encounter at the UN with California Governor @GavinNewsom.
Good to see his continued commitment to the energy transition. California, now the world’s fourth-largest economy, has cut greenhouse gas emissions by 21% since 2000 while its GDP grew 81%.
The next phase of the energy transition is not just about adding clean power. It is about building enough of it, reliably and affordably. #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy
