Mike Green (@profplum99) and I rarely agree on anything, but this piece he wrote is a must-read for every person in business or finance.
One of those things you read and then can't unsee what you learned.

I keep hearing people argue for 49/51% splits between cofounders… and I don’t get it.
Healthy cofounding teams don’t whip out the cap table to make decisions. They debate, persuade, or defer.
After the debate, it’s always somebody’s call — and if you don’t trust your cofounder to make that call, you’ve got the wrong partner.
Startups don’t die from disagreements. They die from misalignment.
👉 Have you ever actually seen a vote save a startup? Or did it just expose a deeper crack in the team?
Huge win by @Rob_McGinnis and team, congrats on a job well done.
“We’ve done it. We now have the technology to revolutionize how energy is used and fuel is made. Starting now, we are poised to enter a time of unprecedented prosperity, enabled by an extraordinary energy surplus that drives down the cost of power worldwide,” writes Prometheus founder + CEO, Rob McGinnis

When I was setting off to build my first startup, my friends thought I was crazy. It sounded like so much risk to them.
But in my mind, I either built a successful company, or I learned enormously. Either way, I won. I ended up building @outreach_io.
And for what it’s worth, when I was in college, the best students were 5-10 years older. They had better focus and perspective. Even if he later decides to go back, I imagine he would be set up for success.
How is it that coding agents are so incredibly bad at thinking though architectures before starting? Shouldn’t this be a standard thing??
Most founders quit not because the market rejected them… but because they picked a mission they didn’t love enough to suffer for.

The appliance industry has the exact same issue and we @ImpulseLabs_ oddly enough are the only team with a vertically integrated platform.
Stay tuned…
Ford CEO Jim Farley on why it's so difficult for legacy car companies to get software right & why @Tesla’s vertically integrated approach is the right one:
“We farmed out all the modules that control the vehicles to our suppliers because we could bid them against each other, so Bosch would do the body control module, someone else would do the seat control module, someone else would do the engine control module. We have about 150 of these modules with semiconductors all through the car. The problem is the software are all written by you know 150 different companies and they don't talk to each other. So even though it says Ford on the front, I actually have to go to Bosch to get permission to change their seat Control software.
So even if I had a high-speed modem in the vehicle and and I had the ability to write their software, it's actually their IP and I have 150, we call it the loose Confederation of software providers, 150 completely different software programming languages, you know all the structure of the software is different. It’s millions of code and we can't even understand it all. That's why at Ford we've decided in the second generation product to completely insource electric architecture. To do that you need to write all the software yourself, but just remember car companies have never written software like this, ever, so we're literally writing how the vehicle operates the software to operate the vehicle for the first time ever.”

And they also underestimate the time…
- The protein plateau is 1.6g/kg
- 10-15% of protein intake is allocated to muscle
- This equates to 15-20g of muscle per day under ideal conditions
- 1lbs is 453g
- Therefore it would take 453 days under ideal conditions to build 20lbs of muscle
- This doesn’t take into consideration genetics, which can make a substantial difference
- This doesn’t take into account rest days where MPS is not as active
- This doesn’t take into account that muscle building slows down as you reach your genetic potential
- Doesn’t factor in newbie gainz, which can be more rapid in the beginning but level off

The first time I saw @superkinz he was complaining about a doorknob. I don't mean the first time I looked at him - we were part of the same Techstars class in 2011 and I'd watched the wiry, pensive founding designer from what would become the Outreach team pacing around the room for hours. I mean the first time I SAW him, really saw who he is, which is the kind of person to get angry at the suboptimal design of a doorknob, thousands of tiny decisions that had created unnecessary friction in the experience of opening a door. I couldn't tell you what they were - I don't see the world that way - but I remember how pissed off he was about it and I remember being impressed.
That's why when he told me he was redesigning the refrigerator, I immediately asked if I could invest. I knew he would attack this problem with the relentless fury some folks couldn't muster for saving a life. Today Andrew is introducing Tomorrow - the refrigerator of the future, which can keep your produce fresh for 3 times longer. You better go catch it.

Deep Tech founders:
As promised, I’m passing along my go-to investors
I hope this can aid those struggling with traditional VCs
These investors, who have supported me at Archer Aviation and Figure, fly under the radar yet are willing to make significant investments in deep tech:
- Parkway Venture Capital
- Tamarack Global
- Align Ventures
- Aliya Capital Partners
- Disruptive Founders Fund
- Team Global
- Troy Capital Partners
- FJ Labs
I've found, through trial and error, the traditional VCs rarely fund *real* Deep Tech. They have SW mandates and are petrified of hardware
I’m sharing these insights because I’ve faced these challenges myself, and I hope this can help someone out there 🫡
If you have questions, comment and I’ll answer for the next hour

figure out the mission and then learn any skill you need to succeed at it
(instead of the other way around)
I’ve heard so many founders talk about building a product to solve a customer’s problem. This type of thinking is super limiting. Your goal shouldn’t be to solve problems, it should be to improve a metric your customer cares about.
