Senator Tammy Duckworth, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel who lost both legs while serving in Iraq, challenged Hegseth: "I'm glad you brought that up. Can you name a single country that belongs to ASEAN and explain what agreement we have with it? And, by the way, how many countries are in ASEAN? Frankly, I'm not sure you even know who our allies are." Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth: "Well, I can't give you the exact number, but I certainly know our allies in South Korea, Japan, and Australia..." Senator Duckworth: "None of the countries you just mentioned are members of ASEAN. I suggest you do your homework before engaging in these discussions." Remember when the headlines were screaming about the two Ole Miss students and blaming kratom before the full facts were available? Well, look what just came out in court. 👀 According to statements made by a defense attorney, one student died from the combined use of multiple substances, including cough syrup. The other died from inhalation asphyxiation. And investigators reportedly found MGM-15 and MGPI, potent kratom-related derivatives, in both students' systems. The complete toxicology reports have NOT been publicly released. Now I have some questions. Where are all those journalists who were so quick to point the finger at kratom? And why aren't we talking more about the businesses allegedly selling illegal products, even after acknowledging how dangerous they were? I've said it from the beginning: investigate EVERYTHING. Release the toxicology findings. Identify every substance involved. Hold irresponsible sellers accountable. But stop lumping responsible adults who consume kratom into the same category as businesses selling dangerous, illegal derivatives. These distinctions matter. If the media had enough confidence to blame kratom before the investigation was complete, they should have enough integrity to report every new finding with the same enthusiasm. It’s everywhere. People OD on coke. Why aren’t you stopping that? After decades of the Dea the drug war the narcotics boards customs drug dogs swat vehicles … when do you deploy icbms? What a failure. It does not take a rocket scientist to see that coke is a far bigger issue for Prohibitionists like yourself and that you will never stop. What about alcohol? 178,000 deaths a year. When are you getting on your authoritarian police state high horse and banning that too? It’s orders of magnitude more damaging than kratom. Kratom is very mild and about the only thing pain patients can turn to for relief, since your Dea et al have more/less banned safe rx opioid pain meds and unwittingly (maybe… some say it’s all by design) turned over pain management to the cartels. We’re tired of the faux misplaced outrage while the nation and streets are awash in coke heroin meth fentanyl nitazenes and more drugs on the streets. Your drug war and Prohibitionist mentality have been massive expensive failures. Instead of tripling down on this stupidity how about ending the drug war? That would be a lasting sensible legacy and show some intestinal fortitude.
