Why donate to Charlotteโs BAG rather than a big charity?
Itโs a fair question, and one Iโm often asked.
Charlotteโs BAG was created in memory of my beautiful daughter, Charlotte, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour aged just 16 and sadly died from a grade 4 glioblastoma aged 19.
Behind this charity is a mum who knows first hand the devastation a brain tumour diagnosis brings to a family. I know what it means to desperately want more time, better treatments and a future for your child.
That is why I continue to fight for the research that is so desperately needed.
We may be a small, self-funding charity, but we have a very clear purpose.
100% of donationsย go directly to brain tumour research in Charlotteโs Lab at Kingโs College Hospital, London.
We don't have a large organisation behind us it's just Miles, my son & I. We rely on the generosity of individuals, families and businesses who believe in what we are trying to achieve.
When you support Charlotteโs BAG, you are helping fund research while keeping Charlotteโs name and story alive. Every donation contributes to our mission of improving the future for people affected by brain tumours.
This isn't about saying that big charities don't do important work. They do. But smaller charities can offer a very direct connection between the people who donate, the cause they care about and the work they want to support.
For me, this is personal. Charlotte was my daughter. I cannot change what happened to her, but I can continue to do everything I can to help other families facing the same devastating diagnosis.
We might be small, but our ambition is not. To date we have raised ยฃ413,683k
If you are thinking about donating to a brain tumour charity, please consider Charlotteโs BAG. Your support means more research, more hope and a lasting legacy for a beautiful girl who deserved so much more time.
Thank you for helping me keep Charlotteโs legacy alive.
If youโre unable to donate to Charlotteโs BAG, please consider reposting this post.
With thanks Alex

And to the maga nasties out here who are suggesting I am not an American since I also have a Czech citizenship and therefore I voted illegally here in Florida. I got news for you. Melania trump is also a dual citizen- of US and Slovenia.
So yes-
I can vote, I have voted and will be voting democratic as long the GOP remains a party of pedophile and rapist protectors. Among other things.

By the way, Mum and I have prepared a special Blog with Advice and Fun for Halloween. Weโll be publishing the link this morning so do look out for it ๐
Another sad episode in Charlotte's young life. Dreams, never achieved.
Please, if you are able to make a donation to her charity, don't hesitate. It could help others to overcome this disease.

After radiotherapy, we went to the day care centre.
Charlotte wanted to stop taking the morphine. The spots on her head had become worse, and we had been promised that her medications would be reviewed the following day.
Charlotte also started talking about the future. She asked whether the chemotherapy and treatment she was having would stop her from being able to have children in the future. She was told they didn't know, but that if she did have problems when she was ready, there were treatments available to help.
Looking back now, it is heartbreaking to think about that conversation. Charlotte was only 16 and was thinking about whether she would be able to have children one day. She was thinking about her future, as any young girl would.
She also wanted to know whether they were hopeful about her future. They told her that she was much better within herself and that they couldn't predict what would happen.
Looking back, I wonder whether they already had a pretty good idea of what the future held for Charlotte. At the time, we wanted to believe there was hope. Charlotte wanted to believe she had a future, and as her mum, I desperately wanted that future for her too.
Please consider donating to Charlotte's BAG to help fund vital brain tumour research.

A Little About Me
I was born on the 18th of February 1997 at 6.25 am. I came into the world with a mop of dark hair, blue eyes and a crying face.
Of course, my first appearance in life wasnโt quite normal, as I was born with jaundice, so I was yellow for three days!
My parents told me that when I was taken home from the hospital, my older brother seemed confused and intrigued by the little creature that had entered his territory.
I loved the Teletubbies, the Tweenies and Barney. My biggest love was Barney, though. I remember having a video of Barney Live in New York City, 1994. I used to watch the same video religiously. I was obsessed!
I also loved Disney films. I always wanted to be one of the princesses. I specifically remember wanting to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid. I was in love with her red hair. I suppose it wasnโt a generic princess colour!
We had two cats, Biffa and Thomas. They were brothers and both ginger. Biffa was a fat cat who loved cuddles and would flirt with anybody. Thomas was very timid and scared of a lot of things. He would stay under my parentsโ bed for most of the day. I loved them both so much.
I had two grandmothers and two grandfathers who lived nearby. I have aunts, uncles and cousins, but I never see them because of the distance.
When I was two, my motherโs father passed away from oesophageal cancer. My brother and he were the best of friends and would hide behind chairs from me, saying, โMedusaโs coming!โ
I wish I had got to know my grandfather. Iโve heard so many amazing things about him.
Itโs 2014 as I write this, and my grandmother, his wife, is 93 years old. She is amazing. She lives down the road from us, and I see her almost every day.

Friends! I have NEWS!
Firstly, thank you so much for all the comforting and reassuring comments you gave us yesterday. Mum didnโt want to admit how worried she was but she had a horrible day waiting for my blood test results to come through. You all helped SO MUCH.
Results: I do have thyroid issues, but the Vet said it can be treated with medication which I will start today.
I also have stage one kidney failure, but this is not terrible for my age. The vet said it could be a lot worse. I am switching to special renal support food and the vet is going to keep a close eye on me.
So no need to worry. Hereโs me eating my breakfast this morning. As you can see, I have a healthy appetite. And watch to the end to see what happens at the end of every meal! ๐น

This morning, I made tea, as I did every morning. Charlotte loved this time of dayย having her first cup of tea, checking her computer, and sitting with Nala, her cat, curled up on her lap. It was one of those familiar little routines that made up our everyday life.
Charlotte had her first cup of tea when she suddenly said she felt a lump in her throat when she swallowed.
My immediate reaction was fear. Has the cancer spread? It was frightening how quickly your mind went to the worst possible place. We knew that her tumour was confined to the area around her brain and spine, within the spinal fluid, so we knew it couldn't simply spread elsewhere in the way we feared. But when your child has an aggressive brain tumour, every new symptom brings another wave of worry.
What we didn't know at the time was that the radiotherapy, combined with the position of Charlotte's spinal tumours, meant that her oesophagus was also being badly burnt. We hadn't realised how much this would affect her. Something as simple as swallowingย something most of us never give a second thought to was becoming another problem for Charlotte to face.
We would later discover just how significant this would be, with the damage having a massive impact on her ability to eat over the coming months. It's hard to explain how cancer changes everyday life. One minute, you're making tea and watching your daughter check her computer with her cat on her lap. Next, you're worrying about another symptom and what it might mean.
These are the moments people don't always see when they think about a brain tumour. It's not just the diagnosis, the hospital appointments or the treatment. It's the way something as ordinary as a cup of tea can suddenly become a source of fear.
I remember these moments because they were part of Charlotte's journey, and I want people to understand what she went through. This is why I continue to share her story. Behind every diagnosis is a real person, a family, and a life changed in ways nobody could have imagined. Through Charlotte's BAG, I hope we can help fund research that gives future families more answers, better treatments and more hope.
Please consider donating to Charlotte's BAG to help fund vital brain tumour research.
