Derek Duane Faulkner, 31, is in custody on probable cause 1st degree assault following what we're told was a "horrific" assault at a Minneapolis Loring Park residential mental health facility earlier this morning. We're told several people were injured, one critically who may not make it.
KICKER 1: Faulkner was charged in Sherburne County last month with 2nd degree attempted murder after shooting an employee at a machine shop his family owns in Zimmerman.
Two days later, he was granted conditional release by @MNCourts, and his family posted $500,000 bail.
Four days later, before he was released from custody, Faulkner was transferred to Mercy Hospital on a medical hold for a head laceration he sustained while in a mental health episode while in custody. While at Mercy, he attacked several hospital staff members, and is charged in that case with four counts of 4th degree assault.
His conditional release was revoked after the Mercy assault charges were filed, and Faulkner was subsequently placed in the Loring Park facility, leading to today's assault/s.
KICKER 2: This morning's "horrific" assault is listed on the MPD dashboard as a "person in crisis." No notation of any assault or violence on the dashboard. They lie to us.
